Because losing after Williams would have been his second loss as a welterweight since he was a teen. Plus he was well past his prime, relatively obscure, and not that impressive a boxer. A loss after Williams didn't mean he couldn't box professionally any longer, it just meant he wouldn't be a contender.

What you guys don't seem to understand is, he lost to Paul Williams! Plaster or not, his career would have gone down that same path.
Safe fight(golden johnson), Revenge(cintron called him out), then another big chance.

Look, I don't want to sound like a Margo hugger here. Facts are, him attempting to cheat was all I needed to stop supporting him as fighter.
But, I am also tired of people kicking the man while he is down...Coming up with theories and passing them off as facts.
