To me, technique is all about punching straight,short and rotating your body to maximize your power and speed whilst being on balance at all times.

Defence is a skill imo, as is counter punching.

I believe Mike Tyson ticks the boxes of all that criteria (Technique) except maybe for punching straight, but that was not because he was incapable of punching straight it was more a case of ........he squared his body up so there was less pop in his right hand if he threw it straight, he could generate more power in his right hand by looping the shot(Larry Holmes)

Tyson definitely punched short and rotated his body perfectly and he had good balance, these are a part of why he was able to hit so hard, he got great leverage into his shots.
