Maccarinelli-Lebedev: Enzo Has Career at Stake

Enzo Maccarinelli is at a serious point in his career. The former cruiserweight champion has been knocked out in two of his last three fights. In March, he was knocked out in brutal fashion by Ola Afolabi, who is not a power puncher. On the the Khan-Kotelnik undercard on June 27, he takes on unbeaten Russian Denis Lebedev at London’s O2 Arena. Macca can't afford another loss. [details]

The highlight of Enzo's career was when David Haye knocked him out. That will be the closest he will ever come to super stardom.

Enzo is a much better fighter than than the Afolabi fiasco suggested, although Haye clearly totally outclassed him. It's a pity Banks got injured; he would have been an excellent measure of how good or otherwise Macca really is. Lebedev looks a tough opponent though, and this really is last chance city.

this is a good fight for both fighters. Even if Macca loses he's not done. I mean look at fujing Bobby Gunn. He is absolute garbage compared to Adamek, and he is getting a shot at the true title. Enzo won't be as marketable if he loses, but will find it easier to get fights. If he wins, he is slightly more marketable, and will price himself out of fights. It's a ok situation for him.

Hopefully Enzo has returned that "flare" he hasn't had in his last couple of fights

Good article and very true... I wish Macca all the best and hopes he gets his career back on track.

Lebedev is a pretty good fighter, but he's not very quick & is a little open defensively.
If Mac loses this one he'll never be more than an exciting domestic fighter..

Hows this a good fight even if he loses? Why will he find it easier to get fights if he loses to this guy? He's down **** creek with losses, he'd have to put in a very good performance to get his career going again. Really he needs to win this and work back up again.

Why do you think he'll price himself out of bigger fights?

Because there have been a lot of good cruiserweights coming up, Macarinelli is no longer a contender in the division. He's never really been a world-class fighter, but the competition wasn't very good before.

He may get past Lebedev, but would get KOed by Ross, Jones, Adamek, Huck, Drodz, Wlodarczyk and probably even by Hide.
