It's kinda surprising though, because Diaz already looks soft at 135.
I'm sure Juan has fought above 135 before and for what it's worth Andre Berto started his career at middleweight .. big deal

uncharted territory or not, there's a heck of a difference in going up to weight to take on nobodies vs fighting shall we say, "upper level fighters"

and as far as where Juan Diaz made his recognition as a top fighter, it was obviously at lightweight. did he fight anyone of note at WW?

I'm just saying, Paul Williams has been as high as 169 before (not just for the B-Hop fight)

but you have to look at more then the weight, and ask "who have these fighters fought at the higher weights?"

cuz yeah Juan or Berto may have fought at higher weight classes .. but was it in vs solid opposition, to give a fair test of how they'd fair at the highter weight (147 for Diaz and 160 for Berto)?

I like both fighters, but Juan will straight tear Paulie up if this fight happens.
Paulie wont have anything to keep Juan off of him, and Juan wont be backing down.

Paulie is done. He punches like a 80 year old woman & his boxing skill is not good enough to carry him through vs elite competition.

This new york guido douche bag needs to retire & become a hair stylist or something.

Who are you? A keyboard warrior that wouldn't last a minute with Cotto never mind a full fight. That Guido hair stylist would cut you down to size like them split ends.

It will be a download the next day job for me, but this could be one of the better match-ups this year. I'm just not sure about Paulie, I like the guy but he's made it pretty clear he is only staying in the sport for the money. I doubt that will be enough to get him the win against a class opponent.

Diaz' jab is somthin serious, I think he could beat Paulie with that alone. Paulie's only slick against guys who don't know how to move in the ring, but if Diaz isn't completely done, he should be able to put that jab on Paulie every time Paulie tries to come in with that weak offense. And Diaz should ignore Shields if Ronnie tries to ride him like a race horse. Diaz has been goin full throttle his whole career, Juan needs to take the mid rounds a little more smoothly to save some energy for the later parts..

And am I the only one pissed the Alvarado fight fell apart???

I mean worse case scenario Mike gets tagged with soft punches through 12 to lose a close decision, and I doubt that would even happen. But either way, at the end of the day Mike could have gotten a grip of different looks from Paulie..

Who have Diaz beat in his career? Michael Katsidis? WOW!

Paulie has been against the better competition. Yes, he has no punching power...but movement, jabs, and ring generalship will give him the W to resurrect his career and end Diaz's.

not to speak for the original poster but Paulie is a pro fighter I'd love to step into the ring with

yes he'd most likely whoop my ass (as he probably should)

but the dude needs a confidence booster after the way Hatton handed him his ass.

I'm a big fan of The Baby Bull but, how many times is he going to get home court advantage by fighting in Houston? Nevermind the fact that Marquez didn't care about that and still brutally KO'd him, but it is still unfair to all of his opponents. I like Paulie too, but he doesn't have a chance against Diaz. I never thought Diaz would be able to make lightweight this long anyway, so I can see him beating Paulie and adding his name to the 140 pound mix.
