Besides, Norris was "calling out" Chavez too. It just never materialized, probably due to the loss to Brown followed by the Chavez-Randall loss a month later.

In the long run it doesn't really matter since fights are made through negotiations, not interviews. You can mention everyone and their mama or mention nobody when you're interviewed. It's just a way to hype a fight.
Imagine P.Will calling out EVERYONE from 147-154 and still can't get fights, and having to resort to fight Winky. Oh wait you don't have to imagine. I know what you mean but **** ain't the same.
To me there is a difference between taking all comers like Chavez and Tyson, and SAYING you would fight anyone. Back when Don King promoted both of them (tyson , chavez) They had a BIG SAY SO in who they wanted to fight, Don just made sure they got paid so he could steal their money. Now it's like why even ask who fighters want next if ARUM is in fact Godlike in boxing, unless his fighters ain't involved.

Williams wants the big fights and talks about fighting certain guys, but is too high risk/low reward so it's hard for him to get the big fights he wants. It's probably a good idea for him to be mentioning big names because it helps give him that "avoided fighter" rep, and he does get exposure on the biggest US network for boxing. It eventually paid off for Winky, and later Margarito. They had those reps but eventually got the big money fights they wanted, although Tony screwed it up be being a disgraceful cheat.

When Tyson was winning titles in the late 80s, and being interviewed after he kicked someone's ass, he usually just said it was up to his management.

He ended up cleaning out basically all of the HW division besides Spoon, and Spoon had gotten laid out by Smith and then blackballed because of King.

Cotto makes a boring ass interview and gives the "I'll fight whoever they want me to" response, but the results have been pretty good lately. Mosley, Margarito, and now Clottey inside a 19 month span.

Pacquiao usually gives the same kind of response after a fight, giving that
"wait and see" and talking about his team (Roach is a different story and Pac can be more vocal in press releases) but likewise, the results have been good. Marquez, DLH, Hatton inside a year and a half, and probably Mayweather next.

I don't really pay it much mind. There's the stuff that goes on in public, and the stuff that goes on behind closed doors that we don't see.

I made this argument about Cotto refusing to call out Floyd...
        Here was my argument.

Why Doesnt Cotto Never Call Out Floyd..

Cotto realizes what's at sake, That's why he doesn't called FLoyd out....Because if he calls Floyd Out and loses... All of the burden is on him..

But if the fans called Floyd out for him and he loses..., Some of the burden will go on his fans for putting him in that Position...and demanding Cotto Fight Floyd...even though Cotto has never called him out..

That's why Cotto never calls anybody out because he doesn't want to accept responsibility if he loses...He wants to have the excuse that I fought who they put in front on me, and I lost...!!
So it's Bob Arums can take responsibility to some degree...

and that's pretty smart, because anyway it goes he doesn't completely loses. IF he wins he doesn't lose, and if he loses, it's not completely his fought because he never ask for that fight he just fought who they put in front of him..

If Pac did what he says I would have no problem. Basically I'm tired of the hype!!! If you don't have a say so in who you fight, then say that **** straight out. Don't hype people up to think this is a possibility by saying all this yeah, anytime, anywhere, no problem for me BS!!! Then go hide behind Arum, who has his own biased agenda in mind.
