Berto has some limitations yet the potential to improve.. Folks ripping on his resume don't make sense. His team is attempting to build him into a champion. Of course he isn't going to face the top of the division right off the bat. The real problem is he got his hands on a belt. Now that he has a belt, people assume he needs to jump fully into a campaign to polish his resume. Had a guy like Vargas been brought up like Berto is, he likely would have had a much better career.

Agreed... I think if Berto WOULDNT of got that belt he would be better off, and under less criticism until he was ready for the elite of the division.

But Im sure he saw the opportunity to become a champion and he took it, and I dont blame it... no matter what happens from here on out, he can always say he was a champion in the welterweight division.

Of course I accept his flaws... his stamina is poor, his defense is lacking, hes now holding more then he was before.

But he is young, and I believe he will still improve.

He needs a trainer that is going to be able to control him in the ring. his corner told him to stop holding and move and throw punches. they told him to dig his left to the body but he didnt listen. He was content at pushing urango to the ropes but when he got him there he didnt do anything. i was hoping he would step back and to the side fire off 4-5 shots and move... but instead he latched on and didnt even listen when the reff told him to let go insisting he wasnt holding...Lefty

He has already amounted to the WBC Champ at WW one of the best divisions in the sport. He has 25 wins and 0 losses he has a lot of talent and a good management team. IDK to say he will never amount to anything is not true but to say he will not reach his full potential is more accurate...Lefty

I recall people saying some things like this about Cotto early on when he was at 140ls. "wait till he gets caught with something big at 147lbs." "Once he steps up its over." "What a hype job." Cotto turned out to be a grat fighter that was just going through some growing pains early on. I think its better that Berto goes through tough akward fights now to prepare him for the big time. Maybe he won't be able to hang with the best in the division. Then again maybe he will. Give the fighter time to develop and take it one fight at a time.
