    Death of the pressure fighter?!

I've heard a bit of talk on NSB lately about how come forward pressure styles "dont work anymore"

WTF do people mean by this....a tough pressure fighter who can take shot and keep coming is always going to hassle people, his days at the top might be numbered but he can still get to the top....

nonsense - there will always be a demand for pressure fighters.

especialy in the mianstream, guys like these are ones who attract fans into the sport - do you know any casual fan who took up an interest in the sport because of b-hop or money mayweather? fans look for fighters like kirkland, gatti, hatton etc

Ricky Hatton reached the top of the 140 lb division. Antonio Margarito was a long-time titlist, and Juan Diaz was doing well at lightweight before running into Nate Campbell and then Juan Manuel Marquez.

They all had flaws and eventually suffered brutal defeats, but it's not as if pressure fighters are dying in the sport.

Glen Johnson's done pretty well for himself in his career, fighting quite a bit in a pressuring style.

The style can work. It just depends on how good they are, their opponents, etc....Some fighters can tweak their game a bit in addition to simply pressuring their opponents.

That is wrong, of course all ahead ****** one dimensional pressure won't work but pressure fighters who are smart and know how to switch up their game will always have some amount of success in boxing.

Timothy Bradley, used effective pressure against Holt and Witter. He's a good pressure fighter but can box when he wants to very well.

Cotto is a pressure fighter, just because he was forced backward against Margarito doesn't mean he isn't.

Pavlik is a pressure fighter and the unified Middleweight champion.

Adamek, Haye, Darchiniyan could all be described as "pressure" fighters. The style is far from dead.

i wouldn't dewscribe haye as a pressure fighter, he has a strange style he likes to lean forward and get max leverage and power when he punches but i dont think hes a pressure fighter who keeps coming at you solid for 12 rounds.

johnson is a good pressure fighter so is vic

adamek is imo the best example

That`s nonesense, Manny Pacquiao was and still is a pressure fighter. He is a current example of what an elite pressure fighter is. He negates all what NSB said.

Froch has shown a fair degree of success owing to this style.

i dont think its the death of the pressure fighter. i think that the pressure fighter needs to be able to apply pressure intelligently, and not just steam in like ricky hatton. an intelligent pressure fighter is probably the best type to watch.
