"generally holding hasn't been a problem with Berto"Have you seen any of Berto's last 3 fights, during the Stevie Forbes fight he was holding the whole second half, against Collazo he was docked a point and should have been dq'd,he held ALL fight against Collazo, last night was just as bad. These are fighters theyre bringing up from lower divisions in Urango and Stevie Forbes.Even Collazo who is a very small welter with little power had him holding on ALL FIGHT.The guy is ajoke ,he was very close to being ko'd in the ameteurs with head gear and 14 oz gloves and against Cosme Rivera(who Zab starched in 3,Angulo in 5)who was NEVER known as a puncher, he got dropped HARD.Since then its been hit, then hold, then decide to let go hit again real quick and hold, ALL FIGHT!!This guy is a JOKE among the welterweights.I'll never forget when Berto made a comment last year that he was ONE on the best Welters,Paul Williams said lets get it on.The excuses that came out of team Berto were Hilarious"Williams is too big and shouldn't be ALLOWED to fight in this division""Berto's too young"(that one is getting a little old, like Berto)"Theres no money".The truth is Berto couldn't hold Williams and if Berto can't hold you ALL fight then you have a good chance to land a punch on THAT G****FRUIT Berto calls a chin.He actually won "Easiest title run of the last decade"by a KNOWN BOXING SITE.In a division stacked with talent where everyone fights everyone we have to see the fighter with the MOST PRESTIGEST belt the wbc ,continuaaly search the bottom of not only this division but lighter ones, its getting truly pathetic.I hear next its the guy Jesse "frakin feleciano"knocked out, Delvin Rodriquez.Berto just give back the belt ,because you OBVIOUSLY shouldn't have it,there are BETTER fighters who would ACTUALLY FIGHT OTHER GOOD FIGHTERS IN ENTERTAINING FIGHTS.Not hit and hold junior welters all night getting boo'd enroute to a DISGRACEFULL,BORING DECISION.HBO PLEASE DROP THIS KID ,HE IS PAINFULL TO WATCH!!
Berto dancing and holding his way in a snoozefest

The only thing painful, is reading that sorry excuse for an intelligent well-written post.

First off, instead of taking credit away from Urango why don't people give credit to Berto.
I don't know if you have ever boxed Lefty and I'm not trying to discredit you or what you know about boxing but.....
It's easy to say "go for the knockout" when all it takes is one slip up from Berto with Urango's power, to get hit and get KO'd. Then if that would have happened, people would be talking about Berto's inexperience and how ****** he is.
Second, Urango wasn't hitting on the inside because Berto was clinching and Berto is a very fast fighter. He can slip in and out very easliy and it's difficult to hit a guy when he's holding you, then moving out. Especially the way Berto was hitting Urango with uppercuts and straight shots coming in and out.
Urango is a ****er, nothing more. Berto showed he's more than a one dimensional fighter and fought a great fight with a very smart game plan. Why take the chance of losing because fans want to see Gatti vs Ward every single fight?
Boxing fans need to be more sophisticated when watching boxing and understand every fight will be different for a fighter depending who he is fighting.
As for Berto i am not saying he should have abandoned his game plan but he was not listening to his corner completely either. They told him to dig the left to the body which he did not do. I have seen Berto do great body work in other fights. They told him to stop holding and move and throw punches. He was content to hold. They also told him to use his jab more which to me his jab was not used as much as it could have been. instead of holding and leaning Urango against the ropes when is was cleary apparent that Berto was the much faser man he could have punched and skated.
HE HELD TO DAMN MUCH!!!
I am not saying to take dumb chances but he is trying to impress the public in order to get a big money fight with Mosley or Cotto PAC right? When he had a substantial lead like 8th round or so instead of sticking his tounge out and winking at Max Kellerman stick and move and put some punches together who knows just like that last left hook he landed in the 12th hurt Urango maybe he could have hurt him in the 8th and finished him. I understand your point mine is that he never really treid to hurt Urango the whole fight to me I felt like I was watching a sparring match rather then a championship fight in which a young lion was trying to prove himself....leftyComment

I fought from the age of 13- 15 and then from 22-25...I never fought professionally but I satyed in the GYM as a regular during those two periods of my life. I have sparred hundreds of rounds in three weight classes from 140-160 pounds. I have very short arms and terrible foot work so I took alot to give a little. Just the way it works my friend I had to get inside to damage the body and since I can fight both in the orthrodox and south paw stances I punch with a decent amount of power from 140-147 and my hand speed is decent.

That's cool that you sparred in the ring and kept up in the sport. I fought amateur and had 60 fights before getting into some trouble and having to leave the sport. I have always kept up in the ring and Jean Pascal is currently using my gym here in Miami to train for his fight next month in Moentreal Canada. I got to spar a few rounds with him and it was a great honor to be in the ring with a world champ.
My point is, when you are faced with a superior fighter ( like I was with Pascal) it's easier said than done when trying to do what you set out to do.
I would have liked to see Berto get a KO but Urango is a dangerous fighter and one shot could have ended that fight for Berto. As a matter of fact, Urango is the most difficult type of fighter to fight because he's akward in his stance, throws extremely hard and hits you from weird angles.
I dissagree that Berto was in sparring mode, he was lading some pretty hard shots on Urango especially early on. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd round where they had a great exchange and were throwing some serious leather in there. I think it was at that moment that Berto knew he that was a ****** thing to do and stuck to the game plan.
Berto is a good fighter, I like him a lot and think if he continues fighting smart he will a very dangerous fighter for any of the elite's in that division to face.Comment

He showed grit in the Collazo but still a guy like Collazo was able to hurt him with a straight left hand. Not saying much for his chin Reed. The holding was too much and he did not listen to his corner as I pointed out previously...LeftyComment

He's also young and Collazo is one hell of a fighter, so is Urango. These are good solid wins against very quality opponents.Comment

That first round stumble backwards, he got hit... but it was more of getting hit off balance that made it look worse then it was... because when he caught his balance on the ropes, he fired right back.Comment
