Berto's HBO contract wouldn't be renewed if it were up to me. I had nothing against him before, but that disappointed me. It was 5X worse than Ward was against Miranda. Shame because theres no elite WW on the horizon. After Cotto-Clottey theres only few more that need to be made.

1) Berto has alot less power than I originally thought. his hands are fast much faster than that of Urgano's but never once did I see him stun or hurt Urnaog except in the last 10 seconds of the fight with a left hook.
2) he really has no clue what to do when he gets inside. In the fight with Luis Collazo he stood right in front of Collazo and ****** it out when he should have been on his bike trying to outbox him and land counter punches. With urango a fighter he was obviously stronger than and much faster he elected to tie this guy up every time on the inside. Harold Ledderman pointed it out several times in a fight where he basically pitched a shut out he looked less appealing than a fight some thought he may have lost.
3) He needed to be turning this guy sid stepping landing combinations on the much slower man. At least looking like he was trying to hurt him. To me it looked like Urango was his sparring partner for the night.
4) He did follow his game plan but the question I was left with was this...Was it ever in his game plan to try to put this guy away?
I mean he is trying to impress upon the public that he is ready for a big fight right? Why not try to KO Urango I mean I know he had the fight won in the bag after the 8th round. Why not let your hands go in one round and try to put this guy away like a true champion an elite fighter a shark like he said after the fight. his exact words were "go back to 140 there are sharks up here' Well where was the killer shark Saturday night? I saw alot of holding and trash talking. Oh yeah he defintely outclassed the other guy but I didn't see the shark he spoke of. I was hoping to see him go for broke in one round and try to KO this guy.
to me Berto has great hand speed, he has good foot work, he has some power, his chin is still questionable. I mean Collazo hurt him and he don't punch too hard right? I think his trainers are bringing him along but at some point your trainers can only do soo much you need to put it together your self and go for it. he needed to put some combinations together and try o get this guy out of dodge to impress upon me that he is an elite. I can see them linning up a match between him and Cintron and Cintron piossibly beating him and taking his belt....LeftyComment

For a guy trying to draw attention to himself and lay claim in a WW division he is NOT doing anything but putting me to sleep. This guy has tremendous talent and is not using it he should be trying to put this guy away.....Cintron and Angulo were great this is just piss poor.....Lefty
We all want to see a great fight but the corner of Berto did everything right that night and in preperation for the fight. It would have been ****** for berto to try and go out there and **** with Urango, giving Urango the only chance he has of winning the fight.
Boxing isn't the tuff man competition, it's the sweet science and as a fighter you have to come up with the best gameplan to win the fight.
It doesn't mean that Berto will fight Mosley, Cotto or anyone else the same in the division. It just means that he's a much better boxer than Urango. I predicted a UD by Berto and that's exactly what happened. Nothing anyone didn't expect from the fight.
Berto keeps up this way, he will get a shot with the ellites in the division whether people think it will be exciting or not.Comment

I'm sorry but I'm tired of people saying **** like this. What do you want Berto to do? Fight ******? Fight Urango's fight?

He defeated Urango more than anyone else has.
He won the fight. And as clear as possible. A knockout would of been great, but take your shutout victory, and move on to the next challenge.Comment

Berto boxed his ears off and gave him a shut out... sure Berto has more to learn.. he held a little too much in that fight, but generally holding hasn't been a problem with Berto.

Reed whut up son? I agree he fought a good fight minus the holding. The problem I had with him is he could have been hitting the guy rather then holding him. he was not tired that was evident so why hold the guy? He pushed him agains the ropes easily why not step back and drop a combo on him then skate? He seemed content with his 1 and 2 punch at a time out put and never really tried to put the guy away. I give him credit for winning the fight it was a good job but for a WW trying to prove he belongs with the elite atop the division to me it wasn't an eye opening performance. Urango looked crappy to me he never was able to put anything together I mean for god sakes he needed the reff to tell him to work on the inside? Berto defintely had him chasing a ghost all night I would have just liked to see Berto in one round really go for a KO. Give me one round after the 6th when you know you have 5 rounds in the bank already and try to hurt this guy. You have established control of the pace of the fight. You have the guy tired from chasing you by the 7th round or so. So why not just give it a go and if it aint happening go back to pot shotting and skate.....Lefty
When Berto said stick to the gameplan, I think that's exactly what he meant.
The entire point of the fight was to correct the last problem he had with Collazo. DON'T get ****** into a brawl, or the other guys fight, like he did with Collazo... He tried to fight power shots inside with Collazo, and got outworked.
Stick to the game plan the entire fight this time Berto... BOX, all 12 rounds, and stay focused.. get the win, but stay focused.
I agree with you, it would of been nice to see the KO, but I think he was trying to focus on just outboxing for 12 rounds, because of his last performance with Collazo.
Also, I think Urango is just a ruggged dude, a tough customer... and nobody else has knocked him out either... so although, we would of liked to see a KO from Berto, that might be holding too high of a standard.
He boxed a shutout, Illl take it... lets move on to the next fight.. and see how we do.Comment

also keep in mind that hatton beat urango (ive said this way before pac-hatton that he sucks)
i like urango but he's nothing special. if you notice before the fight, he was warming up on the mitts with evangelista - every punch he threw was wide as hell. looks like he has to wing his damn punches for them to carry power. kinda like chuck liddel's infamous, wide ass, i can see this **** coming from a mile away super telegraphed right hand. i dont think hes capable of throwing straight down the pipeComment

He may not be a great offensive fighter, but he is a tough guy regardless..Comment

Right, but as far as being just a tough guy in the ring.. with decent defense, and can take a punch... it doesn't seem exactly easy to just knock him out like some of the prospects Berto faced two years ago.
He may not be a great offensive fighter, but he is a tough guy regardless..
either way, berto did what he had to do - it wasnt pretty but oh well
i dont think he'll ever be able to beat cotto (granted, if he isnt ruined which we will find out against clottey), mosley, etc.Comment
