Im tired of champions who "arent ready"

Honestly. Im sick of champions who hold legit titles and then "arent ready" to take on competition on their level. Tonights fight to me is a ****in joke, if Berto is a prospect still, then dont have him hold a legit and historic belt. Seriously, the guy should be making SOME attempt to unify, and if hes not ready to do that, or make an attempt to do that, then he needs to surrender that belt. Urango is a not an a-list opponent, at least with collazo that was a legit fight, but this guy is coming up from 140 and his claim to fame was a plodding performence against hatton, come on. I had this issue with Ricky Hatton when he was basically linear champ back in 05 and did something similar to this in taking on carlos maussa for a worthless strap from a worthless fighter.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I honestly don't acknowledge any of these belts anymore. I have my own champion in my head for most divisions and don't get worked up about 'title' fights that that champion isn't in. I just watch them as two guys getting in contention for the real champ (such as what Cotto and Clottey will be doing to perhaps face the champ Mosley)

i like berto and hatton (who did go on to fight the best i might add), but i agree with what you're saying. but with the way boxing works today, if you have an opportunity to grab a belt, even if you're "not ready," you have to take it. it shouldn't be that way, but it would have been a bad career move for berto to turn down the opportunity to take the belt vacated by mayweather.

        boxing sucks sometimes.

i guess to be fair, mosley expressed no interest in a fight with him, but im saying, these fights somewhat bore me. I would rather somebody surrender the belt, fight a contender, i dont even care if its welter or not, if your gonna bring up someone from 140, it should be better than this ****

i know yall hate him but ill say this, at least mayweather vacated. He did it once at 154 and again at 147. Right now mayweather holds no belts, in all honesty, his status is mostly fanfare related, but id rather someone ****ing vacate and hold no belt and me be dissapointed than holding a belt and doing NOTHING with it. I mean, NOTHING.

Urango is pretty dangerous although crude so it's a step in the right direction.

We'll see how Berto can take a shot if Urango connects.

              I don't mind this fight.

I'm not sure why this fight isn't so bad.

Urango's claim to fame were devastating knockouts of people by the way and his impressive performance against Herman Ngodujo. Andre Berto just had a tough fight against Luis Collazo. Urango isn't terrible, so it's not a step up, but still a step in the right direction.

Berto might hold a belt, but he's still young. Not everyone has to fight tough fights all in a row. It's called bringing him up right. After the war with Collazo, you take a fight where he's still in against a crediable opponent like Juan Urango to help improve him.

Urango is a wilder slugger who has pretty damn good power. Berto is kind of known as a chinny fighter, so this fight will maybe test his chin and also improve his defense against a slugger coming forward who throws wide looping shots.

Urango moving up 7 pounds really isn't that bad anyway. He was huge at 140 and he has good enough power to where it'll probably stick there.

Btw, Carlos Mausa was a good first title defense. He had beaten Vivan Harris, who was a huge hype train at the time. Maussa redeemed himself after losing to some 19-6 fighter....

This is a fair post, that maussa fight was on the mayweather gatti undercard, the day before the fight, harris called mayweather jr a ***g0t who avoided him only to be humiliated. That was hilarious. Harris hasnt been legit since.

I don't even want to see Berto against the top welterweights yet. He should be considered top 10 at best in his division, not a champion despite holding a meaningless belt.

Urango is a decent opponent for him at this point. Berto is no big welterweight while Urango was probably the biggest light welterweight that I've ever seen. A single uppercut of his broke Ngoudjo's jaw.

After this Berto should fight Collazo again or Carlos Quintana.
