OK, so in Floyd's last 2 fights at 135, Sosa was a "tune-up" for who, Phillip N'dou??? And at 140, Corley and Bruselles were "tune-ups" for who, Arturo Gatti??? Oh, and lets not forget 147 where "Shot Sharmba" was a "tune-up" for Zab who had just gotten blown out by an Argentinian journeyman. The same guy Floyd went on to fight right after Zab. Baldy had 9 losses at that point, but Floyd justified fighting him by saying he was the Champ at WW. Now, Floyd won't get anywhere near Shane Mosely beacause, as he said to Brian Kenny, "Shane Mosely, the guy with 5 losses". The hypocricy is AMAZING! Dave, I read your posts cuz I think you're one of the real analysts on this site, but for god's sake man, when are you people going to judge this guy on more than his incredible skills and intelligence? Anyone can retire undefeated if they won't fight the best. Remember, Floyd claims to be the WELTERWEIGHT champ.

He is the most feared man in boxing. No one and I'm including (Floyd, Manny, Cotto, Shane) will fight him. The only welterweight that will fight him is Clottey.

But first go look up the meaning p4p and understand what it means.
Hey man, I respect how you come across and you make valid points.
All I want to do on here is talk boxing but come cats just be spewing
hate and nonsense coming off really bias sometimes.

I didn't say that. If he retires again without fighting a top Welterweight, I'll be as pissed as you. All I'm saying is wait and see. After a 2 year break, you can't expect him not to have a tune-up fight.

Cool and the Gang...and I'm not pissed - I do like watching the man fight, but I truely believe in my heart that if Floyd doesn't beat at least two of this era's top WW's, the next generation of critics that DIDN'T see him fight, wont't have half of the appreciation for the man than we do as fans at this point in time. The reason that Ali, RRobinson and Joe Louis are so revered today goes waybeyond their records and skill sets. They gave more to the sport than they ultimately recieved from it, and that is where true boxing immortality lies. Sorry if I came off like a jerk.

a better Oscar maybe but hatton NO. hatton moved up and left his comfort zone @140 to fought for the first time at 147.

            • Strange...I went through the article and can't find where Floyd Mayweather said anything like that...

JMM always fights with a lot of heart, and Floyd has never faced such a clever counter-puncher before, which he'll have to find a way to solve. The weight disparity means JMM doesn't have much realistic chance of winning, but IMO he'll still give Floyd far more problems than Jennings gave Cotto. It's a reasonable tune-up after a long break from the ring, IMO. He should be judged on who he fights next, not on this fight, and I think it'll be a very good fight.
Has JMM ever faced a counter puncher like Floyd?? It is border line hilarious how everyone says FMJ hasnt ever faced a fighter like JMM. Floyd is 10x's more of an all around boxer than JMM has ever come across.

So you seem to be saying you think Marquez is not a valid opponent for Floyd, not even for a tune-up. Anyone who says Marquez has anything at all to bring to the fight, you're down they're throat. If it was really as much of a mismatch as you appear to believe, then all the haters would be right to criticise him for taking this fight, and those who say no one should bother to watch it would also be right.
