There are other ranked heavyweights on the card. No one was excited about Meehan or Brewster's opponents, why not make one of them fight Valuev...or have them fight each other and make it a new main event, one that's still quasi-worthy of the ticket prices? Why just walk away and lose money?

Brewster bailed out of an Indianapolis show then never rescheduled, then signed with Sauerland, then fought a guy with 16 losses and then scheduled a fight with a guy with only 11 career bouts, then turned down a shot to fight the WBA champion of the world? All Finnish boxers will probably be fighting on Saturday, possibly against different opponents.
Brewster supposedly declined the offer to fight Valuev on a short notice, Meehan on the other hand agreed but his promoter Don King had not arrived to Finland yet and thus the fight could not be made.
I'm very disappointed in this recent history with who was my favorite heavyweightComment

I wonder what fell through with getting Meehan to replace Chagaev?
He has been rated as the WBA mandatory chalenger for some time now.
Meehan was more than willing to step up and fight. He was on the undercard anyway and hence would've had no issues with travel or fitness.

brewster jumped at his last his last title fight because of the payday but physically wasn't prepared coming off a detached retina.I'm not sure that he wanted to fight valuev after only 1 fight on a couple years.this may have been a mistake by brewster not to fight valuev.he may never get a better opportunity to win back a title & if he won he be in line for a trilogy with wlad in a 3 belt unification fight.if brewster won the valuev fight & the 3rd wladimir fight we could have had a possible undispute champ by early 2010.brewster with 3belts of brewster vs vitali...it's just a possible scenario but won't likely happenBrewster bailed out of an Indianapolis show then never rescheduled, then signed with Sauerland, then fought a guy with 16 losses and then scheduled a fight with a guy with only 11 career bouts, then turned down a shot to fight the WBA champion of the world?

WTF Chagaev? And WTF is up with the boxing commision in Germany or Finland? Don't they take blood samples a few weeks before the fight as a routine? It would have been a bad fight but at least it would have given some clarity to the heavyweight picture.Comment

Will we ever get a undisputed WBA Heavyweight Champion of the world? Very dissapointed that this fight has been called off.
What were the odds of this? ......

I just revisited an old post of mine; I must say, it's goddamn crazy that Chagaev goes from having his career in question one week to preparing to fight for the legitimate heavyweight championship of the world the next. The article says that Chagaev failed the medical, but quotes the promoter as saying "Valuev's health is the top priority."
-Just read the prior article, which says Chagaev tested positive for Hepatitis B and Valuev was given the option to revieve a vaccination and go on with the fight. I suppose the promoter is referring to the risk to Valuev's health in contracting the virus.
-So where's this leave Chagaev's carreer is the obvious question.. I am aware of other fighters who've had hepatitis, i.e. Evander Holyfield. Still, the publicity around the incident surely won't help.
I guess the fraud Nikolai Valuev can pound sand. I have a feeling that Chagaev is going to steal the show.Comment
