I don't understand how the promoters can just "pull the plug" for the whole show. The fighters, promoters, event planners, etc., etc stand to lose, I would guess, a good amount of money. Maybe the organizers have some kind of insurance that covers loses from this kind of situation....Comment

That's what happens when you care about the rules and doing things right.
If the fight was in Germany Chagaev would have gotten the thumbs up for sure and the fight would be going on as planned.Comment

Universum owner Kohl only cares aboout money. He's the German Don King, he treats his fighters badly or in some cases overprotects them like Bob Arum.
Sauerland is actually not so bad, he's been okay to his boxers.Comment

Mäki: Tolppola may still fight on Saturday
Finnish boxers might be seen on Saturday after all
- Juho Tolppola may still fight on Saturday, stated boxing trainer Pekka Mäki.
The other four Finnish boxers who had prepared for Saturday evening may still fight on Saturday despite the heavyweight world title fight between Ruslan Chagaev and Nikolai Valuev being cancelled.
According to Mäki the issue will be cleared up on Saturday.
Everything erupted after the organizers of the show demanded Chagaev to take a physical. Blood tests were taken on Thursday in a Helsinki hospital and the results were received on Friday.
Universum is confused about the situation because according to it there has never been any problems in the last five years. According to the organization all physicals have been passed previously.

If Universum knew there was a problem it really puts them in a bad light. This isn't a freak injury.
This is a fighter (Chagaev) and his promotor (Universum) knowingly covering up a serious and potentially life threatening (for his opponent) illness to make money.
Not only are they putting Valuev at risk but also the referee and anybody sitting close enough to the ring to be spattered by Chagaev's dirty Hepatitis infected blood.
This is a complete disgrace and just goes to show how little respect the German promotors have for the sport and how little they care about conducting themselves the right way.
Carl David Drummond should sue Universum and Chagaev for exposing him to Hep-B. Clearly in Germany they were able to rig the tests and endanger everyone unlike in an honest, decent country like Finland.
Injury? C'mon! You should know communicable diseases are not injuries.Comment

It's been long rumoured that he has Hep-B and they have steadfastly denied it.
Now it is clear that he does. His Hep-B obviously didn't just disappear and then come back so how can Universum possibly not know about it?
I don't see any possible way that this could be a surprise to them. My guess is they thought they had figured out a way to mask it.
It also puts into question the German officials who allowed Chagaev to fight against Drummond.
They want guys like Kelly Pavlik to come over there and fight and they are not even willing to ensure that a fighter can enter the ring without the chance of contracting a potentially fatal disease.Comment
