One of the best defensive fighters of all time...and one of the best at 135

Only flaw wit Pernell is that he aint have real good power...he made up for it though.

I consider Whitaker's jab up there with the great southpaw jabs like Hagler and Wright.

Not as powerful, but accurate, quick, and terrific at disrupting rhythm.

his jab was like a straight right, but from the chest.

I consider Whitaker's jab above Wright's, and equal to Haglers.

the thing was so quick, had a lot of sting behind it, and he could use it in almost any occasion.

anyone that wants to see more of the versatility of Whitaker should watch his fight against Azumah Nelson. Nelson was a damn good fighter, and Whitaker was able to land about 400 punches on him throughout the fight, despite Azumah putting an amazing amount of pressure on him.

Whitaker was really one of the most complete fighters Ive ever seen. his power was one problem, but he had some pretty nasty knockouts at times, and was able to drop/stun some pretty tough fighters.

His jab was his best weapon, perhaps even better than his D. Even at an advanced stage Pea's jab against De La Hoya was very impressive.
