How underrated at the time was Pea? People give him credit now but I feel while he was fighting he didn't get the credit he deserved.
He might've been underrated prior to beating Chavez. But I wouldn't even say that because he was widely considered the best or #2 in the world, depending on who you ask. I think the manner in which he beat Chavez (while not completely one-sided Whitaker proved better in almost every category, even body punching) probably wiped away whatever doubts existed.
**** wont play for me for some reason. I didn't see this fight live of course, but I remember an uncle talking about this fight a long time ago saying everyone was expecting Whitty to run and he was the agressor. So I watched the fight.

Must be a Mexican thing. My pops and uncles kept calling Pea "el pinche payaso que le gano a Chavez, pero por payaso se la robaron". Mexicans generally don't like that style.
I remember him catching Juan Nazario w/ a body shot which I believe was the cause of the KO not the head shot that landed shortly after that was a sweet body shot

i didnt mean to sound like I only watched it cuz he was the aggressor, I didnt know much about this fight and my uncle told me enough to intrigue me.

True, I just remember that whenever I brought up Whitaker up back in the day most people would say negative things right away. I know in recent history pure boxers have not received the attention that guys with one punch knock out power get but I was amazed at how people used to speak negatively about Whitaker. I guess its what the difference between true boxing fans and casuals.
