Who is the bigger draw: Cotto or margarito

dont bother texan look who started the thread. ask him what the attendance was for cotto vs jennings or cotto vs gomez. Then ask him what the attendance was for pwill vs margarito, pwill vs cintron at ceasers, then ask him who had 90% of the people cheering for him at the MGM, then ask him who brought in a record ever to go into staples center! ever that includes lakers and any concert ever held there. They will stay say cotto not knowing that there's a reason why he only fights in new york the eve of the puerto rican day parade

Again, Margarito himself didnt sell out the Staples center. It was a split crowd. You truly believe Margarito vs Corey Spinks would've sold out Staples Center? They knew having Mosley and Margarito both fight in LA would draw huge numbers being both guys have big fan bases in the LA area.

It's all dependent on what places the fighters fight at. Obviously, Margarito had more of a following on the West Coast because of the Mexican / American population, as with Cotto when he fights at MSG with the PR population.

But overall, Cotto has been the more popular of the 2 and has packed Madison Square Garden several times and has been in more higher profile fights than Margarito. Margarito's claim to fame is KO'ing Cotto (which ironically got him no where but being infamous now).

Cotto did to MSG against Juddah, What Margarito did for the staples vs Mosley.

And Ofcourse theres a bigger Mexican fan base on the west COast. If that fight was happening in MSG, Margarito woyuld not had 1 fan chweering for him!!!!

This is not a simple question, at all, Mellow. Cotto wouldn't draw flies in the West Coast without some one big and Margarito wouldn't draw flies in the East Coast without someone big. Whereas, Margarito is a big draw by himself in the West Coast, and Cotto is a big draw by himself in the East Coast.

Compare him with an active boxer though, like let's say Ricky Hatton?

But the difference is, to the general public, Cotto is a bigger name. That gives him the edge.

You poll random people off the street around the country, and more people have heard of Cotto.

I think people underestimate Cotto's fanbase outside of Puerto Ricans. I have African American, Mexican, Chinese friends who are all fans of Cotto. I don't know how many non Mexicans were ride or dyin with Margarito prior to last July.
