He didn't slap much then, but in all honesty everyone hits hard in the early days because they fight D class fighters to come up, which they easily knock out.

      It was both.

Regarding Lacy's power, Calzaghe himself said between rounds "He can't punch ****" and "He's ****"!

I never fell for the lacy hype, and I called that Calzaghe would win. I was thinking a close UD based on workrate, but not an old fashioned Philly mugging.

Dude, I know you don't like Calzaghe, but let's not make **** up. It's nothing to do with the class of fighters, it's everything to do with hand injuries. He still hit harder than he was given credit for later in his career. The words of someone who sparred with Joe:

But the best I've been inside the ring with was Joe Calzaghe in sparring. Beforehand, I thought he was quite boring to watch and looked as if he slapped but, **** me, he punches hard. If he slapped, Bernard Hopkins would've stood toe-to-toe with Joe, but he [Hopkins] got on his bike, didn't he? If Joe and Nigel (Benn) had fought, I think Joe would have been able to take the pain and would've ended up hurting Nigel, bit like Michael Watson did. ~ Tony Booth
So, the people who sparred and fought him said he hits hard. Some jerks on BoxingScene said he doesn't. Who's word should I trust?

He hits hard enough to earn his opponents' respect, even with broken hands. Like Tony Booth said, "**** me, he hits hard". Roy also said the "pitty-pats were harder than I thought".

Ah come on man lets not make assumptions. I like Calzaghe just fine, and I have been rooting for him in each of his fights that i have watched excluding the Hopkins fight for obvious reasons. be that as it may Calzaghe has been one of my favorite fighters for a min now.

Btw. All I meant was that during an elite fighters coming up, they score a lot more knockouts than later in their career, because they people they fight for their first 20 fights or so are not world class at all. And It's not only Calzaghe I speak about but almost all fighters.

OK, my apologies. You always seem to post against him, though.

Only when people make ridiculous comments such as he should be ranked higher on the ATG list than Hopkins and Jones, and that since he was 36 it didn't matter much that he beat on Jones even though Jones was shot to ****.

I dunno, see I always thought Joe would be no different with some other trainer. Hell, he might even be worse. What's taken him so far is his unorthodox style. Calzaghe is a unique fighter with a style like I haven't seen before. I think this style gives most people major problems and much of his success comes from being ****ing weird!

Like my man TalkBoxing said, it's the Kangaroo Gigantic Bunny Rabbit Nightmare Style.
