I don't understand the hype about Guzman. The guy won his fight with Soto by literally turning his back to him and running at the end. I can understand why nobody would want to fight someone like that. What's it gonna do for your career if you either beat him in a lame fight or get outpointed by his chicken-**** style. Now Nate Campell is a real fighter. A fight between him and Manny would have been an explosion. Pacquiao would beat him though, make no mistake about it. Campell looked drained in his fight with Ali Funeka. We need to see what Nate looks like at 140.

In defense of guzman he did school soto and easily won that fight. He had over a year layoff before that fight, and yeah coasted the last few rounds as he had the fight in the bag and there wasn't a possible chance of him KO'ing Soto. In hindsight it would have been better for him to look more impressive in the later rounds, sure, but Guzman was thinking get the W and he fights Pacquiao, as there was a verbal agreement in place that if Guzman won, he would get his shot at Pac.

It is what it is though.

As odd as it might be for me to actually be defending Guzman, I do have to say that he beat Barrios for the 130 title in sept of 2006 after beating Jauregui at 130 in may of 2006. Pac fought 5 more times at 130 up until the D. Diaz fight in 2008. Can anyone say with a straight face that Larios and Solis were more "well-known" or more "credible" than Guzman at the time?

            I cant.........

And even though I cant stand him, he clearly got ducked in 2006-2007........

you know arum was milking the morales-trilogy at the time.

larios and solis were just tuneups. not bad tuneups imo.

the money was in fighting morales , barrera and marquez.

you're in the business. if you had a fighter that could have ppv fights with morales , barrera , marquez would you even think about fighting guzman?

**** that's a guy I never gave Pac credit for beating. Mybad
Yeah but he ain't African American now is he? Campbell and Mayweather are his only African American competition and that has only come into the fore quite recently so I wouldn't say he has been avoinding them. I would say Campbell is a good opponent but he has been fighting the elite in Marquez, Barrera and Morales in his -130 career. He moved to 135 in June last year which isn't long in this 2 fights a year era.

So it's ok for Money Pacquiao to take money fights but it's a sin for Floyd?

Maybe Arum figures its not worth the risk of putting Pacqiao in with a fighter whose style doesn't particularly match well with unless they are P4P like Mayweather. You fall short against someone #1 in their division but not declared P4P hurts you more in perception. This may come up again if he fights Cotto instead of Floyd.
