    well it is true.

People might also throw DLH into there but i don't think so. He is not as popular with the general public as Ali and Tyson are.

i think dlh deserves to be in there. almost every big boxing bout nowadays has golden boy involved plus you cant knock his boxing credentials either.

Oh, and they also know the fictional boxer Rocky Balboa who was inspired by Rocky Marciano. So throw Rocky in there as well.

Majority of general public today might not. The fact is that they transcended the sport during the time they fought in.

Dempsey was as popular or even more popular than Babe Ruth. He was one of the first to generate millions of dollars in any sport.

Jack Johnson's fights incited race riots around the country in which people were killed.

Joe Louis knocked out the German Max Schmeling in one of the biggest fights of all time at a time when the world was at war.

Jack Johnson transcended the sport in his day, but unless you follow boxing, then you wouldn't know it anymore. Old timers will tell you. Also, Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey were huge celebrities in their day. Dempsey was probably the best example of an athlete that transcended his sport until Ali. In the 20's Dempsey and Babe Ruth were the two biggest names in america. And I'm sure everybody knows the name Babe Ruth.

p.s. Rocky Balboa was not based on Rocky Marciano. It was based on the Ali-Wepner fight.
