So you have one guy who has people telling him he can't do it- he's too old- but he feels focused, ready and able. His wife has just left him and he's pissed at the world, needs a good fight to release his tension and anger.

On the other side, there's a guy who knows this is the first fight in a long time without his little 'edge'. Like you said, his confidence is faltering and- after a round or two with him seeing how determined Mosley is- he's not sure of himself at all.

The combination would, in practice, look quite a bit like what we saw; all this, of course, is just the mental aspect to- like ИATAS206 said- Mosley having the right game plan.

That is part of it, I also think that Margarito expected Shane to be nothing but a speed bump (a homecomming game if you will), once Shane showed he was not going to be rolled over, without that possible edge he had nothing left to offer and caught an asswhipping.

I was kind of joking but Shane I think was supremely focused for this fight, and with the wrap thing messing with Margaritos's focus just minutes before the fight it sent things into the sprial of events that we saw that night.

It all goes hand in hand.

people forget how limited margarito is, has no jab, doesnt setup his punches, what was getting him by was his chin, not his limited skills. He was a guy getting by on heart and stamina, the guy wasnt chavez out there. Mosley just gave him movement and unloaded on him because hes always been an easy target, period.

it wasnt even about gameplans, it was about mosley having enough toughness to handle wahtever margarito dished out without getting worn down...and enough power to wear margarito down...

paul williams had the toughness(or the size) too...

if you survive margarito, on points he really is ****ed because of his no defense approach........mosley had the power and speed to just unload mercilessly on his ass though, thats why he ****ed him up so bad....

if cotto had as much toughness(note, im not sayig cotto is not tough, just saying msoley is tougher), he would have been able to unload on margarito's ass and not be worn down so badly(maybe the plaster made some difference too)...

he fought superb, but i do think margarito wasn't his best that night cause he was worried about getting in trouble for the hand wraps.
