I think Cotto's stamina and lack of defense will fail him. Floyd's stamina and defense is too good for Cotto. Cotto will probably have success early on but will get worn out once Floyd adapts to him. Look at Floyd's past fights. He's the one that winning the later rounds. He took over against Zab, Oscar, Hatton etc. Floyd by UD/ late stoppage

Shane has a legit chance of beating him. He won't look as good as he did against Tony that's for sure, though. Shane doesn't have great defense, he drops his left hand alot and invites lead right hands from Floyd. This has boring fight written all over it. Floyd by SD.
    Good points....
    Both have excellent chins..agree?
Both can explode Floyd's body if needed....I see them taking Floyd's potshotting and diggin to the body. Cotto didn't gas out against Margocheato...but I think he did gas out against Shane....the hits they were putting on each other was great.
If Floyd fought Cotto...I think it would have a chance of being a borefest..only cuz Floyd would counter all night, but he wouldn't hurt Cotto...
Shane I think would be more exciting as Shane would be forcing Floyd to fight...expecially on the ropes. Good pressure, **** to the body, eat his 10oz glove protected right hand, and KO him in the latter rounds (10th or 11th).

No. Thats the thing about the Philly shell (I like this more than shoulder roll). It is the ultimate defense in boxing. It will either make you impossible to hit or make you the easiest target to hit.

Because the left arm is tucked in, the body is protected by your arm. Hitting the arm doesn't equal points. Becuase of this position the right hand is placed in the perfect position to block the right side of the face or the liver area. A quick inch adjustment and you block the body shot to that side with your elbow and can cover your face with your glove.

Because of the shoulder, right straights and southpaw's jabs are useless. They get rolled and countered by the right hand. The jab of an orthodox fighter gets parried/patted by the right hand.

That is why the shoulder roll/ philly shell(i like the sound of this more) defense is arguably the best defense in the game. If you have the right tools to use it.

So going to the body of Floyd will not only get you NO POINTS but countered all day long. Then you add in that Floyd's footwork is better than both Cotto and Mosley(mosley's prime has better footwork than Floyd though). He will pot shot them to death and get an easy UD or SD win.

Best way to fight Floyd is at mid-range where he cant use the defense. Body shots aren't done from mid-range. Cotto is X'd out. Mosley has a better chance to win.

There is a reason why Floyd is also called "Pretty Boy".

I cant recall a Shane Mosley fight that was ever boring. Even when he loses it's entertaining as ****.

Agreed, but look who he's fighting. Floyd like Hopkins, doesn't give a fuck about being exciting.

On the flip side of that though....because the right is held low..even when punches are blocked they still land partially. The style is one of anticipation. Because of Pacquiao's unorthodoxed style...it's going to be very hard for even floyd to anticipate what's going to come next from Pacquiao. If one jabs and probes without overextending himself....Floyd wiith his shell style will have nothing to counter. And that shoulder roll is fairly easy to time coming back to reset. Hence why alot of fighters have success against him in the early rounds.

                Just thought of something.....
If someone is in their Philly Shell/ Shoulder Roll stance waiting and waiting all day to counter or potshot....wouldn't you just smother them all day so that no counters come out? Granted a well placed uppercut would make you think twice...but ultimately, smothering and muggin a Philly Shell Artist (that's what FMJ is..an Arteest) cancels out all the advantages? Example...DLH was smothering and jabbing on the ropes, did well until he stopped throwing the jab...and one would expect Floyd to use lateral movement to counter him being smothered, but against Pac..who else moves laterally better other than Floyd? Shane could just bully him...(like what Hatton tried to do against Pac) but I doubt that Floyd could throw anything that could hurt Mosely. I don't know...
So many scenarios...good to discuss with fanatics who are not just fans!

Personally i think the uppercut would be the last thing you would wanna use against someone in the philly shell. Because the lead hand is held low..if you try to smother him...he would have no problem flicking his jab as you rush in and use it as a measuring stick to keep distance. DLH smothered Floyd on the ropes but very few shots if any at all landed clean on floyd. DLH smothered himself more than floyd because his shots had no power and were partially or fully blocked. he should have took a step back and got power behind those shots.

The Philly shell is a reflexive style. Meaning it lends itself well to someone with quick reflexes. The key to beating the shell would be an unorthodox style like RJJ or Pacquiao. If Floyd doesnt know what's coming next...then he wont be able to anticipate and react to it.

I meant an uppercut from the Philly Shell fighter would make you think twice about rushing in...I don't think Floyd's jab is anything to be scared of...especially if you're a legit WW.
Agree that an unorthodox fighter has the best chance against a Philly Shell...can't defend or react to something when you don't know when and where its coming from...
