I think really his ultimate demise will the the punches Mayweather lands face over and over and over....
The Weight Will Be The Ultimate Demise of Juan Manuel Marquez

I seem to recall people thinking this would be an issue for Pac when he fought DLH and we know how that turned out.Comment

JMM would get stomped by Floyd at any weight. The weight is going to be the ultimate demise of JMM in this battle.
I totally agree marquez isnt fast, strong, athletic or as much as a natural as Floyd and manny are. But the fact that Juan is essentially a bloated featherweight who was able to move up to 130-135 and not only beat but ko fighters who out gun him in every way shape and form is a testament to his personal greatness.
Marquez will never be as explosive as Manny or slick and graceful as floyd. But dont think for one second Juan is any less of a virtuoso. Marquez simply put, is this generations Alexis Arguello. A classy boxer who is well rounded in every aspect of the sweet science. His greatness rest in the fact that he is solid in every area of the game but STELLER in precise timing. He does not make mistakes.
The man is a swiss watch and operates in milliseconds. Ive seen him live in action 3 times and its really a sight to see.
Much like Aguello though his days are numbered @ 140 + Simply put he dosent have the fame to support the added weight. Body types are different and we as the fans need to expect/respect that.
Floyd was always a big jr.lightweight (a weight marquez just recently invaded) and i remember watching him blow out Genaro Hernandez thinking that he had the shoulders, legs, reach and height to carry up to 147 pounds and still be brilliant.
Marquez will not look good with the added weight. Manny is a genetic freak and has some how not lost a beat while skipping divisions. But sadly the same can not be said for marquez.
At feather he was perfect blend of everything that makes a fantastic fighter. At 135 he looks too flat footed and is getting hit by shots he shouldnt be getting hit with . The weight/being 36 is not mixing well with his body type and he is slowing down . The diaz fight is the perfect example of a fighter who is loosing his step but still has the god given smarts to beat a good fighter. JMM is already in decline and the wild thing is not any of you really see it.
Diaz clipped JMM in the first round and pushed him back..If diaz had decent pop Juan would have been iced.
This fight is a mismatch and floyd is a snake for fattening up a magnificent little man and using him as a warm up to the manny pac pay day. Come on people Juan shouldnt have to skip 2 weight classes and sign up for a fight he will not win to try to goad manny into a rubber match.
Juan is a class act and world class fighter who has earned a 3rd fight with pac. The term pound for pound is a hypothetical term used to give the following scenario
If fighter ______(given his current skill set and abilities) was a natural ______ ( weight class) He would beat ______________
The term should not be taken literal and the Lightweight champion of the world (career feather weight/ horrible physical attributes) should not have to take a fight were nothing is in his favor just to prove to us fans he is not only good but GREAT.
Nobody made him take this fight.Comment

So did Mosley and Arum to fight Cotto, why choose Juan?Dude whatever. Juan Marquez called Floyd Mayweather out. You forgot to add that to your above manifesto.
I don't remember hearing Floyd (while in retirement) call Juan Marquez out. Do you?
Juan like Ricky Hatton called Floyd out and now they're going to fight at a catchweight. It's that simple.Comment

Shane moved up when Floyd called to fight prime DLH(the bigger and more well regarded fighter at the time) at 147 pounds and had to have surgery when he was "hiding" behind his dentist, plus his boss DLH was looking to get a rematch with Floyd at the time. Mosley then beat the crap out of the guy that Floyd could have gotten an eight million dollar payday against but avoided in Margarito and wants to fight Floyd now. His history shows that he doesn't avoid high risk opposition. While I don't believe Floyd is a coward, he has been all about making the most money with the least risk since he left 135 and doesn't especially care about his wins being ugly.
As to the original post, if Juan Diaz had pop with the amount of punches he throws, he'd be unstoppable and Pac certainly has pop in his fists, yet he couldn't take Marquez out or manage a definitive win against him. Marquez is at a large disadvantage with the weight, but Floyd isn't exactly a killer in the ring these days and he'll have some ring rust. I doubt he'll dominate Marquez.Last edited by HitBattousai; 05-27-2009, 03:56 PM.Comment
