If you group the greatest punchers of the sport, the majority of them either have large hands for their size or very prominent knuckles. It's simple physics. Hand size has a direct impact on punching power, unless of course the person with big hands has no skills whatsoever.

That's because he stayed in a division that prevents his body from thickening. His chest measurements are huge for the division he was fighting in and probably took up most of his weight so his legs were always going to have to be smaller; which comes from running and dieting. Increase food intake and lifting and his legs will thicken. He kind of reminds me of Kostya Tszyu with how thick his upper body frame was.

He could add weight with no problem with the size of his torso. I would even favor him getting stronger which goes with Freddie Roach saying JMM looked more powerful at LW which is why he scored the KO. Smaller guys like Hatton, who have a small upper body, shouldn't budge from certain weight-classes because added weight will just hold them back. To much weight/muscle on a smaller frame isn't good. But a bigger frame can move up. That's why you had small guys that were thick like Sam Langford that could jump up in weight with no problem. Not saying JMM is like that but he is a lot bigger than the division he was fighting in. But, it's getting his legs stronger that will be the key and at his age and his hormones will have to be proper running order which they should be considering he is an elite athlete and performs at a high level.

wow the title and subject of this thread is a complete joke.....

"Marquez's hands are bigger then Floyds"

WOW so were Hattons....and a handful of other people Floyd has fought....

        Hand size doesn't win fights....

With the larger upper body, it seems weird that JMM always fought at such a low weight... he has quite a short reach and small legs but he looks to have the frame of a 140 pounder.

Marquez needs to thicken his legs. It would be smart weight gain as long as he does it right. I'd implement running A LOT of hills with a weighted vest. I'm in the Army and I've done this many times to strengthen my legs. My legs get thick fast and I don't lose any mobility or stamina, in fact I gain stamina. I would not recommend weights (for legs). Hope JMM has a good strength and conditioning coach in this camp.

Power isn't something Marquez and his camp are worried about. Speed is where this fight will be won for Mayweather....

That's the biggest concern for me.

yeah thats not good, but with the extra poundage he will be putting on, they might be ok.
