Some questions about Boxing vs MMA.........

Alrite, me and this dude at work are always going back and forth with each other about boxing and MMA...I have no problem with MMA but I love boxing and he try's to tell me boxing is an already dead sport and MMA is crushing it...I tell him theres no way boxing will ever die and MMA is just a fad..I would like to have some facts to throw at him rather than just "your full of ****", so some questions I had are...............

    1. I know in 07 and 08 boxing was #1 for most PPV buys but has MMA ever been #1 on the list????

2.A top class boxer will make about 5-15 million in a fight, if not more....How much does a top MMA fighter make???

    3. Which one does better on crowd attendance?? Boxing or mma??

    4. Boxing is a popular sport worldwide..What about MMA?? Here in america it is huge right now but what about other countries?????

I think Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Liddel did second best in 07(losing to DLH-Mayweather) I'm not sure.

2008's highest paid MMA fighter was chuck Liddle, $200k.

    3. Which one does better on crowd attendance?? Boxing or mma??

I would say equal but honestly don't really know.

    4. Boxing is a popular sport worldwide..What about MMA?? Here in america it is huge right now but what about other countries?????

MMA is famous in Asia from what I know, but that's all.

I've never heard of an MMA fighter doing 7 figures, let alone UFC which is like the WWE of MMA. If i'm wrong then forgive me, but last time i checked the highest paid MMA fighter got 6 figures. I'll double check just to make sure.

          1) MMA is not a fad. it's the fastest growing sport in America (Meaning not bigger than boxing...but cant knock them for having goals to shoot for0

          2) They probably do about equal in gate atttendance. MMA is the reason that boxing is going back to its roots by having cards in fighter's hometowns.

In San jose CA, where i'm from...MMA is bigger than Boxing because of local success stories that have become hometown heroes. UFC top contender John Fitch, current strikeforce middleweight champ Cung Le, and the legendary Frank Shamrock. The closest thing we have to a local boxing hero would be Andre Ward from Oakland. So it would depend on the area.

          3) Boxing is not huge in this country right now...regardless of what you think. It is huge in other countries where even irrelevant cards fill stadiums with close to 10,000 or more in attendance. But at the same time...boxing is clawing its way back thanks to guys like Pacquiao, Mayweather, Cotto and Margarito.

Yeah, you know how 20 fights is already a lot for an MMA fighter. Like with 20 bouts you're considered extremely experienced and a veteran, while it takes about 40 pro boxing bouts for a boxer to be considered a seasoned veteran. At least from what i've seen that's what it looks like, if an MMA fan can clear that up for me i'd appreciate it.

MMA is huge in Brazil. That's Vale Tudo started, an early form of anything goes type fighting. It's also very popular in Japan. It's more honorable over unlike here where we associate it with Meatheads and drunk fans. It's also becoming very big in countries like England, Australia, Canada, Russia and France.

I guess I was wrong and partially right.

"Arlovski made a signigicant amount. The actual number was 1.5 million though, which is the largest one I have seen. The average is pretty hard to say though. Some of the undercard fighters only make about $5,000, while main event guys generally take home $250,000 or more for some."
