Bradley vs. Guzman Hangs on The WBO's Decision

IF, and that's still a big if, he gets a shot at Bradley, that isn't anything like what he missed out on by not fighting Campbell. Looking back, if Guzman were to have fought and won, he would have been the unified champ at 135. He would have had quite a few options from there and much much closer to setting up a big payday fight that he's been looking for. IF he fights and beats Bradley, it still means little and doesn't necessarily mean it will set up a big fight.
So yeah, I'd say he paid the price big time for his mistake.Comment

Let's assume for a second that Arum does in fact have co-promotional rights with Sycaun. Because if he doesnt, then this fight is even less likely. I have heard from several sources that he did do the co-pro deal, but obviously I wasnt in the room so I dont know that 100%
Problem #1. Bradley's first obligation is to the Interim Champion Lamont Peterson. Arum would have to allow Peterson to be stepped over in order for Bradley to fight anyone else.
Problem #2. Voluntary defenses must take place against someone ranked in the top 15 in the division. Guzman is not ranked at all at 140, and is only ranked #11 by the WBO at 135. Since Guzman has never fought heavier than lightweight, and holds no title, there is no basis for even ranking him at 140 pounds.
Bonus Problem: Just because Guzman's manager accepted the fight, I cant see Arum giving Shaw options on Guzman. Makes no sense........
Problem #1 is a lot worse then problem #2. Guzman hadn't fought at 135 before when he challenged campbell no was rank, but Guzman "had visa issues" (aka Warren paid off the WBO to allow Arthur get the 130 title and then Guzman gets the #1 135 ranking somehow)
Btw, who is Nate fighting next?Comment

Not exactly. WBO rules permit a "standing" champion to vacate the title and move up and become #1 in the next division, and thats what Guzman did. He had the WBO title at 130, and he vacated that title in exchange for the #1 rating at 135, which made him Nate's mandatory. Guzman holds no title now, so the circumstance is not the same.
Nate's next fight is in Tampa on May 27 against Don King. lol. After that court hearing, we should be almost done with this legal stuff. We also need to wait till after May 30 to see what happens with Berto-Urango, and if Urango is going to vacate or not. The Bradley fight is still viable assuming this Guzman story goes away, and the Alexander-Witter winner will also have to face Nate. So there are several options, but there are some things happening in the next 2 weeks that we need to wait on the results. A Nate-Holt fight for the #2 IBF spot is not out of the question either.....Comment
