Are the fighters really 10-15 pounds heavier in the ring?

Honestly I am not entirely sure about this, but I imagine there is an official weigh in where they probably weigh in naked. After that theres the weigh in that is televised and the press can go to where they wear shorts and flex and whatnot.
The weigh in is usually the entire day before the fight. They weigh in again on fight night in their underpants most likely. The extra 4 ounces of cloth doesnt matter as much on the fight night weigh in.Comment

A little off topic, but fun never the less...
There was a Gatti fight, I honestly don't know the bums name he was fighting, but Gatti made weight and then showed up the next day something like 22 lbs heavier and proceeded to knock this bum out so bad he didnt wake up till he was in the hospital.
Gatti also got slapped with a lawsuit.Comment

I read up on this and it actually pertains to the thread topic pretty well. Here's what I found about the Gatti-Gamache fight:
Controversy against Gamache
His first fight of 2000 proved to be controversial. Faced with former world champion Joey Gamache, Gatti won by a knockout in round two. When Gamache went into a coma for a day and it was discovered that Gatti had gained 19 pounds since the weigh-in the day before and thus had a large advantage in size over Gamache, boxing legislators pushed for a new law requiring boxers not to exceed a certain amount of extra weight from the weight accorded on the day of the fight. Gatti was also accused by Gamache's handlers of not having actually made the contracted weight of 141 pounds. After Gatti-Gamache, boxing commissions started weighing the boxers a second time, on the day of the fight.Comment

The weigh in is earlier in the day when they arrive at the building. From there forward they shadow box, stretch, hit the mitts, etc. You figure after a couple of rounds those guys probably drop most of that water weight anyway.
There's no hidden agenda in this thread. I just think in reality they probably end up closer to the weight limit than what is told. Water weight is as easy to lose as it is to pack on.
10-15 pounds is definitely realistic.Comment

A lot of the problem with the Gamache fight stems from accusations that Gatti actually never made the contract weight. They said his team messed with the scale or something.
My main question is, with all of the physical activity following the weigh in would they drop 25-50% of that weight anyway? In some cases the advantage is ridiculous I agree. No fighter should gain more than 15 pounds after the weigh in. Anything more than 12-13 is already pushing it.Comment

the weigh-in is the day before, sometimes as much as 36 hours before the fight. 10 pounds in water weight is nothing when you're wearing a sauna suit and/or albolene, but no way are you going to lose that much water weight in a regular room just hitting the pads and shadow boxing. all you do before a fight is break a sweat and get the muscles loose.
