I don't think you could call him a proof-positive coward until after his snoozer with De La Hoya when he retired rather than finally face a dangerous welterweight. He even offered a rematch. Then he returned to fight a 140lber. Now he will return to fight two lightweights. It just seems to convenient that he would rather retire for years on end than face the welterweight division.

i would say after the 2 castillo fights. that's when he probably realized he wasn't an unstoppable force who could beat anyone so he started going after the easier fights which suited his style.
