I think it's completely fair to fight a tune-up after a two year lay-off. Whether Ali did it or not.

However it's forcing a great fighter to make such sacrifices that lower his value to merely a tune-up that is the trouble.

Personally I think once they're in the ring Marquez will be anything but a "tune-up" but it seems clear that this is what Mayweather chose him for so that's besides the point.

I would have preferred one of the WW's.

What pisses me off is that when Floyd KO's Marquez he's gonna be all like "oh look how good I am, I came back after a two year layoff and KO'd the #2 P4P fighter", and that's bull****.

If Mayweather treated it like a tuneup, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Quintana, Collazo, and Berto are more dangerous than JMM at 147.

      And I love JMM.

I like how none of you mentioned that it MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL...to put a GREEN up and comer like Berto in there with Mayweeather..especially after a SLICK boxer like Collazo gave him hell..are you guys dumb you honestly think Haymon who is ALSO Floyds manager would Let Floyd undress his future star.

        DUMBASSES!!!

Hes also signed to fight Juan Urango...a 140 pounder..moving up to 147.

not to detract from your point but i think you shouldn't put so much stock into what comes out of Mayweather's mouth

it's a hypothetical question dude. Mayweather has signed to fight Marquez too you know

Berto is at least equal to Collazo

any of the options there would have benn better than make a boxer move up 2 div to fight him. Collazo would have been a great option he has good boxing skills and not too much power hell even quintana but hey we are talking about Floyd here i hope marquez land a good one in the chin

This is all for Pacquiao, he came back for Pacquiao. We shouldn't worry so much about JMM, why are people having a hard time understanding that?

I'm not arguing that a tune up fight isn't acceptable, my argument just lies in the fact that Mayweather says Mayweather is an ATG. ATGs don't fight tune up fights, and if they do, they don't fight someone 3 weight classes below them. Marquez isn't a tune up fight, it's a stunt.

P.S. I completely agree that Marquez won't feel as much like a tune up as some might think.

Mayweather vs Collazo or Quintana or Berto would be fights that i would prefer over a Marquez fight.
