you can be sure most of the american boxers who were hyped when amateurs, particularly in the late 80's till mid 90's, did not struggle....promoters usually gave them ****loads of **** so they would sign with them when they turned pro.................de la hoya was poor as **** but when he became a hot shot amateur, shelly finkel was paying for everything, cars, bills, mothers health care, you name it...
