Is prime only determined by age or how long you've been fighting?

Even if you're 50 year old and you beat Cotto, Mosley, Mayweather and Pacman consecutively. You're in your prime.

one thing i never got was that someone like roberto duran can fight war after war, and still be great into his late 30's, but JCC can do the same thing, but is out of it at late 20's. can someone explain?

It's determined by what age do you get beaten by Manny Pacquiao.

Once you are beaten by him, its obvious that you were done. I mean look at Barrera, Morales, DLH, and HAtton. All shot after he beat them.

        =)

Dropping 15-18 pounds of water and muscle at 35, will ensure you to not be at your physical peak, especially after 50 fights. It's not really an excuse, it's just the way it is..

I agree 100% that drop in weight is not the cause of RJJ's shotness, but rather it accelerated his slide down the slope exponentially.

Sounds like Reed thinks its a little of both. Age 35 and the amount of fights.

Roy wasn't himself in the 1st fight tho. Most people would admit that...

                    if you win=prime
                    if you lose=shot

                    know the rules!

Peoples biggest defense to the drop of weight is... well the rematch was 8 months later? So what's the defense to that?

The first thing, these aren't defenses, they are just realities.

When Roy went up to heavyweight, he did it right. He re-built his body to run the best at 198 lbs. Meaning no fat, All muscle, all speed.. natural 198lb athlete.

When he had to drop to 175, there was no fat to lose. So the only thing to do is to dehydrate the body of water. Which basically shrinks.... everything. Including your stamina, punch resistance, speed, power.... everything.

Look at the pics... I mean jesus.

                      Ruiz fight

                      8 months later, tarver fight...

... look at that... that says it all.

So now the rematch.. here's what people miss... do they think that just because Roy just shrunk himself down to 175 to make weight in the 1st fight... that after the fight, he is suddenly NATURALLY a 175lbs again?

Of course not, once he starts with the liquids again all that weight will come right back on, at 35 years old... Now in the rematch, he just has to do it all over again in training for the rematch.

Now in the re-match... Roy got clipped to the jaw with a huge left hook... I mean that's the end of that. That's what happened, you can't deny that or defend that.

In the Glen fight, he fought 4 months after getting KOed from Tarver, and then is going to put his body through ... ANOTHER training camp... having to lose this weight all over again, at 36... 4 months after getting knocked out once.

Everything after HW, had fail written all over it. I mean, this is just what happened.

When Roy went up to heavyweight, he didnt just... throw on some weight.

He built his body to be a solid natural cruiserweight.. and he looked it. Then forced his body to fight at LHW, at 35... You simply are just not going to be at your peak anymore.
