I believe the excuse for the Austin fight. Golota's arm was literally hanging by his side, and he was unable to defend himself.

Having said that, he probably would've lost anyway as he looked very out of shape and sluggish even before the injury.

After reviewing the documentary from the Bow and Golota Fights, Golota had the tendancy to survive and not care what he does in the ring. Similar to what Tyson did againts Holyfeilds ear.
