a possible first round ko... he improved a bit with sr.
How would the Hatton that beat Kostya have done against Pacman?

Pre-Kostya I think he could beat Pac. The next fight post-Kostya I think Pac stops him late. Hatton took a lot of damage in that fight.Comment

I personally don't think him being KO'd in that fashion had anything to do with being past his "prime" or Manny being huge puncher. I still think he would have been Ko'd because the hand speed difference between Manny and Ricky is dramatic and I think Ricky would have been hit by most everything that Manny threw. That being said I don't think Manny hits so much harder than everyone else Ricky's faced that it made the difference, Oscar was never close to going down despite all the left hands he ate in their fight, in fact I never even saw him wobble. I also don't think that Ricky's past fights somehow lowered his "punch resistance". I think his ability to take a punch wasn't what it has been in the past, but I believe it's because he drops so much weight to make weight. My theory is that his partying between fights has slowly progressed, and he's put on more and more weight between fights, so the weight loss has affected him more and more. I'm not saying he'd have won, just that he may have had a better showing if he maybe had more time to lose the weight or hadn't blown up so much in the first place. My two cents.Comment

Punch resistance is not a bollocks thing. You can most definitely lose your punch resistance. It's a very common factor in boxing. Just part of the game, like losing your reflexes as you get older. Like it or not.
I think it would have definitely gone the distance. He had more of everything then. More speed, boxed better, more determination and most importantly, he moved his head a lot more.
It's not a diss on Pac for those fans that cry about it. Fighters most definitely lose, or can lose, their punch resistance. You threw out the greatest names in the history of boxing. They were that great because they had something special. Hatton doesn't have that. He's just a decent champ for this time. But, it's just a fact of boxing. Many champions as they get to thirtyish and have had a long career they can simply lose their resistance and it often comes after one bad loss. It really is that simple.Comment

Pac never sat down on his punches. He was trying to be careful pretty much the whole fight, respecting DLH's power-- the right gameplan. Now I'm not saying Pac woulda knocked him out, but using that fight to gauge his power isn't the right way to look at it.Comment

Pac looked very uncomfortable when Hatton got in close. The question was whether the Hatton that beat Kostya, AKA the Hatton that refs allowed to hug-n-hit and basically stay on the inside the ENTIRE fight, could beat pac. Also, Hatton's chin was totally shot by that fight. This is not to say that Pac's power was not a factor because it was.Comment

I could say that he never destroyed Morales or Barrera with one shot but that was at a lower weight and they both have Jay Leno chins.
I just don't think he has the power to do that to a healthy Hatton.Comment
