Manny and Floyd are close the actual weight they step in the ring at is within a pound thats official weight so you cant really argue with it Im only quoting the numbers put out by HBO .good post man... but but first off... manny and floyd are not the same weight no matter how you phrase it... second... if its such a big jump to fight cotto and mosley why is he fighting at WW???? answer me that... cuz he hasn't fought any big name or money fights in WW aside from setting himself up for a big pay day vs ODLH...
Why did Floyd go to WW , your right it was to get the fight with Oscar to make his mark on the bigtime as Manny did , niether did it to make a WW statement , only when Floyd did it he had been calling Oscar for a long while and had to earn the shot with ODH so he beat the linear WW champ because he was not very talented and slow then Judah who was really a Jnr Welter anyway , Manny took Oscar at the scales , Floyd picks his fights carefully as does any fighter jumping divisions its not new look at Williams a 160 a nobody stiff and then an old Winky who is really only a 154 fighter anyway , Manny did the same jumping divisions but dont cop half the flack Floyd gets for picking his fights carefully , example Roach wants Mosley and Cotto at catchweight because Manny is small for those guys , Floyd avoids them for the same reason although both Manny and Floyd could beat them its just not smart matching when Floyd and Pac are better matched and will bring more money and prestige , Floyd gets dogged for it all the while they all do it

Your post doesn't make any sense other than the somewhat clever matchmaking that Pacquiao enjoys that you mentioned. First of all, Williams didn't really have a choice but to fight Phillips and Wright because all the other fighters at 147 didn't want to tangle with him at the time. They should be held accountable for that too somewhat but the point is that Floyd hasn't put himself in the 147 pound mix at all. Williams, Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, and even Clottey have all fought a top 5 welterweight. Other than Baldomir and Judah your hero has fought how many?Manny and Floyd are close the actual weight they step in the ring at is within a pound thats official weight so you cant really argue with it Im only quoting the numbers put out by HBO .

If he shows back up at his usual fighting weight by Fight-Time, he'll be under 150 pounds. Cotto and Shane will blow up in weight by 10+ by fight-time. Of course, we call this a "WW" bout but it really isn't by the start of the fight.
If he fights them, will this go unnoticed by most like it usual does or will this topic be brought up and be given respect for the weight difference?
If not, maybe Floyd could hire Freddie Roach to negotiate for him so that he can get them to come down in weight so they can be drained by fight-time.
Point: If we had same day weigh-ins, where would these fighters be fighting?
Cotto and Shane would probably be MW/160. Pac would be a WW and most of the rest of the JrWW would be WW-JrMW.
No. Its Floyd that we are talking about. People here will forever hate him. They wouldn't give him any bonus points even if he went all the way up and faught Carl Froch.Comment

Williams could have fought a genuine MW , he didnt that was my point that he chose smaller 154 class fighters not a full blown A grade MW , we are talkng about fighters jumping divisions here in terms of weight , and eh I got nothing against Williams great fighter , I dont bag fighters to pump up the tyres of another I say it as I see it , I just used Williams as an example my point was being made it was not a dig at Williams .Your post doesn't make any sense other than the somewhat clever matchmaking that Pacquiao enjoys that you mentioned. Floyd gets branded a WW by all and sundry even though he is not really a WW his weight says so and nobody can argue what the real weights of these guys are , weights against weights since boxing began Floyd would not be anywhere near the average weight of a genuine WW stepping into the ring and when you understand that then you see why Floyd and now Manny are in the spot they are in 2009 , and in what relation they are to other big money fighters out there , then you can see why they fought the fighters they did to get there , it was all smart matching , they are both genuine great fighters using what they have , skills , match making , persona , and playing the weight game , its all a Hollywood production with a real fight as the climax and 90% of the world swallow it ,,, and like everybody else in the game Floyd and Manny want to get the most they can as life is short and a career shorter , if you could grant them one wish they would both wish to be Heavyweights because then they got it all
The weight a fighter is fighting at is the ONLY accurate figure to show size of the fighter on the night of the fight , its his true size !!! so if you want Floyd to be a WW in your writings then you better make Cotto and Mosley MMs you cant have it both ways , their weight doesnt lie and you boys need to get your head around real weight to get the true perspective because untill you can see a fighter true weight you cant comprehend Floyd giving Oscar 16 lbs to a pumped up Oscar and Manny getting 2 pounds to a rung out weakened fighter , thats not a knock on Manny just a fact of the two fights , I think Manny is a fantastic fighter and his persona is a proud gentlemen that is hard to not like he a credit to his people .
By the way , Floyd is not my hero mate Im cruising in on 60 ,,, nobody is my hero and by the time you get to my age you have people you appreciate and enjoy seeing but heros went out the bull**** door long ago .Comment

Benny it is a big advantage to dry out to get into lower weight class , it is not unhealthy when its done right for that individual ,, today they are pushing it further and further like Oscar last time , its like a mountain you keep climbing then **** your over the cliff and crashing bad ,, making the lightest class for any individual is all about discipline in what you eat its not about training you do that anyway ,,,, Floyd fights in the WW division because it was the step he took to Oscar who he new all along he could beat regardless of weight so he chose smart in picking Baldy and Judah , he could make 140 but it would take big effort in what he eats and believe me when a fighter starves himself making his lightest weights starting out in the game he never forgets that hunger , I think Floyd is comfortable at WW fighting the guys just short of the best there , thats why he is fighting JMM because its Manny he wants and if Roach thinks Floyd will not go to 140 he might get a shock , 140 now after a couple of years off is a big job you cant jump down like you can jump up there is always residue that needs to be starved out Floyd makes WW with no effort its hard work for 140 , this fight is a tune up , but JMM a great fighter is not the tune up Floyds weight is with Manny in mind .Maybe because he is truly a WW and what I mean by that, he can weigh 147 pounds by fight-time. The others, not so sure if they can. Maybe he doesn't like to drain his body for the scales in order to make weight, thus allowing him to concentrate on the fight during training and not if he can make weight for the scales. There may be a mental edge to it since you know you are likely to show up healthy by fight-time and not risk showing up flat if you don't rehydrate properly or diet down to much to make weight. However, if done right with dehydrating and rehydrating, there is a big advantage to showing up 10+ pounds more than your opponent. Fighters probably follow suit because most are doing it this way which almost forces them to do it to.
The question should be: Why are fighters that are 160+ (like Clottey at 170) fighting in a division that says "147"?Comment
