Who's the fighter of the decade?

if pbf ko's JMM and pac, then yes, I would put him above pac. but we all know that is unlikely to happen. It's hard to say, if Pacquiao loses it ultimately comes down to what qualities one gives more weight to. Mayweather indeed needs to win both fights in impressive fashion for them to significantly add to his legacy. On the opposite side a Pacquiao win would obviously catapult him into the true boxing pantheon, unequivocally.
pbf is probably gonna decision both fighters and that to me still gives pac the edge over pbf.Comment

HERE:
Manny Pacquiao ‘The
Greatest Boxer of the Decade’
By Jun Medina, Special To The Manila Times
Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao was named “The Greatest Boxer of the Decade [2000s]” in an elite list made by a famed boxing chronicler, sharing the spotlight with other boxing greats like Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran.
Pacquiao, 30, was the only Asian in the exclusive roster. He upended unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr., who was named runner-up.
Drawn up by prominent boxing historian and sportswriter Michael Rosenthal of the Ring Magazine, the elite list is a compilation of the best-of-the-best boxers pound-for-pound in the past 10 decades, from the 1910s to the 2000s.
“The Filipino’s legend grows every time he steps into the ring,” Rosenthal said in a separate article. “He dazzled us with his consistency against the Mexican trio of Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez,” Rosenthal said.
“He shocked us when he stopped Oscar De La Hoya. And on [May 2], he turned in a performance that is destined to be a classic,” he added. On that date, “PacMan” knocked out Britain’s Ricky Hatton in spectacular fashion the second round of a scheduled 12-rounder to take the Englishman’s International Boxing Organization’s junior welterweight title.
“Pacquiao’s speed, power, ferocity and skill all met on the chin of Ricky Hatton and knocked him [Hatton] out cold. It was nothing short of chilling. Now, more than ever, he’s the greatest star in boxing and we can’t wait to see what comes next,” Rosenthal said.

well, I wanted to be fair.
but yeah, calzaghe's resume is trash.
here are the highlights of his career:
- 21 title defenses(18 bums and 2 over the hill fighters and 1 unproven)
- Best win is over a 43 year old.
- Best win over a prime fighter is Kessler and his abilities are almost completely based on opinion because he hasn't had any significant victories yet. I remember Judah is suppose to be the next p4p king because his boxing abilities were out of this world. Can't really give anyone a fantasy rating... kessler could end up losing to Karoly Balzsay for all we know.
this is what Calzaghe-huggers think is worthy of fighter of the decade. sad.Comment

I like JMM but he is not the fighter of the decade. Winning the featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight belts are certainly an accomplishment but his accomplishments and resume are below Pacs and PBF.
Shane Mosley. I love him. He’s had dominating fights such as his demolition of Margarito but he hasn’t dominated a division. His losses to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright remove him from the list.
BHop dominated his division in the first half of the decade but not the second half. Taylor did beat him – close as it was – and so did Calzaghe. You can’t win a round throwing only 5 or 6 punches. No matter how good your D is - you need to throw and land punches to win a fight.
Calzaghe. Not a chance.
That leaves PBF and pacman. The rest of this year will determine that.
There is also personal preference. Do you prefer a defensive artist or an effective swarmer; do you prefer someone systematically dismantling an opponent (PBF v Hatton) or quickly knocking him out (Pac v Hatton). Truly the rest of the year and even fights in 2010 will affect our (future) ratings.Comment
