    Great against guys who brawled with him, very average to below average against high level boxers.

      He was a brawler ,took a lot of punches in his career ,he had the heart of a lion and pretty good power,he is the real life rocky to me.

          Basically, he had pretty good natural power and one of the greatest chins of all time. Eventually that chin and power ran out, particularly when he was forced into 147 by weight issues. Skill wise he would sometimes show some good foot movement and ok speed but would quickly degenerate into brawling. One of my favorite fighters! He was a 2 time champ so that means something, and he beat some solid fighters.

            Gatti had decent skills but abandoned them throughout most of his career and became a brawler instead, he tried to become a boxer again later in his career but by then it was too late, he had been through too many damaging wars. His best weight was 140 but he had trouble making the weight and was too small for 147 so he was in a bad spot there, his habits out of the ring didn't help either. So overall, he was a decent skilled boxer who didn't use them too much but was one entertaining fighter.

            I'd suggest watching more of his fights, most of them were great, action packed fights.

                He won a couple titles, although that means less nowadays.

                I would say he was a "B or B-" fighter in his prime.

                A= Mayweather, Pacquiao, Hopkins, etc...

                B+/A- = Castillo, Corrales, Casamayor, etc..

                B-/B = Gatti, (Jesus) Chavez, Manfredy.

                Gatti had some decent boxing skills and athleticism, he boxed well in some fights (Patterson fights). Unfortunately, his defense (especially for a straight right hand) was poor and he would go to war right after tasting some leather. His vulnerability to cuts and swelling, along with a party lifestyle, didn't help.

                He was mentally tough and could take a shot, but that only gets you so far, and I'm hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling a few years down the road we're going to see the ugly side of that Gatti attribute.

                His punch resistance was interesting. He would get stunned or dropped pretty easily, and often not by big punchers. But it's like he would wake up a bit, and suddenly he'd take more and more and become more used to the punches. It wasn't too hard to stun or hurt him but it was extremely hard to put him anyway.

                If you've only seen those two fights, then you definitely should watch his two fights with Ivan Robinson (especially the first), as well as his fights with Gabe Ruelas, Wilson Rodriguez, and Angel Manfredy.

                    I don't think he is, although that would have been an interesting fight. Hatton had world-class speed and footwork but a glass jaw.
