Vitali's current success only makes Lennox look even better imo. It shows that Lennox was able to hold his ground against the next guy in line. Not many atgs are able to say that..

    Young Johnson beat Jeffries
    Young Dempsey beat Willard
    Young Marciano beat Louis
    Young Holmes beat Ali
    Young Tyson beat Holmes

    etc

    and then...

Young Klitschko gets his face f#%ked up and loses on cuts to Lennox. In boxing, cuts caused by punches trump scorecards. And a decisvie KO trumps cuts, scorecards, and everything else. If Vitali had the spirit of a champion he would have used the cuts as extra motivation to KO his guy before the fight was stopped(like Marciano did on so many occasions.) He didn't.

When Vitali failed against Lewis he was basically saying: "My best barely reaches your worst, and this next era of heavyweights is going to absolutely suck.... Please fight me again when you are 40 so I can have a better chance of competing against you."

Head to head, prime for prime, six years apart, resume' to resume': Vitali just does not measure up.

Lewis resume is better than either Klit's. The era was just better.

Of course there is a couple of things that detract from Lewis and prevents him from being a top ATG that being those 3 devastating KO losses and his failure to give Vitali a rematch in the same way as the great Joe Louis gave a rematch to Joe Walcott.

Joe Louis was 34 when he gave Walcott a rematch. Walcott was 34 as well....so not a very accurate comparison. Lennox was 38 years old, with nothing more to prove and a crap-load of money in the bank. He had avenged all of his losses, beaten his rival Mike Tyson and crafted his way to a tko victory against the next guy in line. What more can you ask?

Vitali was in his PRIME when he failed against an aging Lennox and he's going to have to live with that for the rest of his life.

The comparison is more inaccurate if you compare the degree of controversy. Vitali's loss was much more controversial than Walcott's.

LOL at comparing those versions of Jeffries, Ali and Louis to the 37 year old late maturing Lennox. Of course according to your first post, Tye Fields has a better record than Lennox.

Of course LL has a better resume than both Klits, he's a top 5 ATG HW, what do you expect?

Lennox Lewis makes the top 10 ATG Heavyweight list thru a respectable number of people's eyes, and top 20 in just about anyone who knows anything about boxing's eyes. Wlad or Vitali still have more to prove to even earn being in the top 30. Not much more to prove...but more. If Wlad gets KOed by Haye he can forget about it. If Vitali's injuries cause him to get stopped again he can also forget about it.
