When fighters jump up in weight..

It’s a misconception to regard Marquez slow at 135. This is brought up, by how he looked in front of Diaz. And peddle back, that Floyd is just as fast as Diaz. Truth be told, Floyd would look slow in front of Diaz. Because Diaz swarms his opponents with flurries.Comment

a lot of boxers make the mistake of putting on more muscle (i.e. shane) which hurts their speed.
pacquiao did it the good way. notice how his ring weight is about the same his last 4 fights even though he jumped from 130-135 and 147-140?
all he did was cut less the higher he moved up which helped him as well.
henry armstrong never bothered to put on weight either. when he challenged for the 160 belt against cerefino garcia (another great pinoy fighter.) he barely weighed over 140.
Thanks for the little history lesson at the end. And yes, I agree about Pac carrying the extra bulk effectively. Unbelieveable how well he's carried his power whilst jumping up and around in weight like that.
I could just as easily have used the Hopkins vs. Pavlik fight.
I think sometimes, the fighters get too hung up on the weight and it costs them.Comment

$ talks louder than common sense sumtimes. And JMM don't give a ****. Dude's on a mission. I wouldn't doubt he seriously sees Mr boat buyer as his tuneup for a 3rd Pac fight. He's obsessed and won't rest til he gets to Pac. It's gonna get him hurt in this fight, but that's what warrior's do. War Dinamita!Comment

Good post Tua.Thanks for the little history lesson at the end. And yes, I agree about Pac carrying the extra bulk effectively. Unbelieveable how well he's carried his power whilst jumping up and around in weight like that.
Yes, this is correct. I just used it as an example since this is the current number one topic around here.
I could just as easily have used the Hopkins vs. Pavlik fight.

yup, fighters sometimes get too hung up on weight. ive also noticed that people have the misconception that being heavier automatically means more power - that's not always the caseComment

To get a big fight and not because they are having trouble making the said weight, why do they put on the weight if they think it will hurt their speed? I see people saying that Marquez will not be as fast at 144 or whatever ****in goofy weight they are having the fight at. I don't disagree with that statement but if he really thinks it will hurt him, why not just weigh in at 135-140 then? Same with Hatton when he fought Floyd. If he was so much better at 140, why did he not come in at 140 for the weigh in? Fuck the 7 pounds.
If the added weight will not help you, why bother gaining it if you honestly think you would fight better 5-10 pounds lighter? Is there a rule against this that I have overlooked?Comment
