His next fight when he retired was supposed to have been a rematch against DLH, and if his motive was to avoid the Welters, he'd have gone ahead with that rematch, pocketed another $20 million, and then retired.

A lot of boxing experts (e.g. Atlas, Steward) have said they believe that the real reason he retired when he did was that he was disillusioned by the fact that his father was going to train DLH for the rematch, and couldn't bear the idea that his own father was trying to help DLH to knock his own son out.

Also, the first DLH fight was regarded at the time as a huge risk, due to the fact he was moving up in weight; and many experts at the time thought he might lose that fight.

I'm not trying to justify the fact that he retired without defending his lineal Welterweight title against any top Welters - I agree that was bad; I just think people should keep things in perspective. Judge him on who he fights next, if he beats Marquez. Stop going on about the past, and especially, don't twist what happened in the past to fit your agenda.

why dontpeople stop over analyzing **** and think for alittle...

PBF retiring and coming back into the sport would mos def mean that he will generate more money b/c of the interest of those who want to keep seeing him win and the others who still want to see someone beat him.

retirement gave him time to rest and let the next big name in boxing come up for the next potential Mega fight then he comes back in to upset the balance and take back his crown.

    its realy not that complex

this article is full of it... they make it sound like fighting Cotto is just a walk in the park. Cotto is the bigger strong man that has the power to keep Pacquiao at bay, even to knock him out!!!!

We said that about Pacquiao's last two opponents too. Is Miguel Cotto the same Cotto we saw a couple years ago? I think I'll wait til the Clottey fight before I start speculating.

I don't think they are underestimating cotto, they are just saying that cotto is a more exciting fight than a fight against floyd.

I'm very happy about this! I'm a Cotto fan first but also a big fan of Pac Man. Most of all I'm a true fight fan! That is a fight that will be entertaining! It will be a war and pac is very much a challenge for Cotto. In Arums eyes it's a win, win situation. They are both his fighters.....PAC-MAN WINS, YOU GOT SUPER FIGHT WITH PAC-MAN/FLOYD....COTTO WINS,...SUPER FIGHT WITH COTTO/FLOYD, PAC GOES BACK DOWN HAS SUPERFIGHT WITH MARQUEZ AT MORE REALISTIC WEIGHT FOR BOTH FIGHTERS...HA! AMAZING HUH? NOW IT'S ALL STARTING TO MAKE SENCE TO YOU , RIGHT? As long as Marquez and Pac fight these bigger guys with honer they will loose no repect in a loss in most eyes . Don't be suprised though. Both can possibly beat the bigger guys...anyways Cotto has his hands full with Clottey..

They are looking at the Cotto vs Pac fight as a tune up for Mayweather vs Pac. it sucks that he lost that fight with Margarito... (with loaded gloves!!) will be taking about Cotto being best pound for pound fighter.

manny is man enough to take it at 147, he is that brave and can be idiotic. and so he's got people to protect his health, and fyt wisely.

his adviser salud is stating his own opinion, no more no less. that's his advise as he sees things his way, that's his role. now other things are considered in making decisions, so many intangibles aside from the tangible things. why take it against the adviser, or the whole pacqguiao team with that statement. all boxers, prominent ones, has his team to sort out things before a decision is made.

"cotto is the better fyt" nothing to mean "we are scared of floyd" or "we will not fyt floyd".... and nothing is final there! manny-may can still happen
