is mayweather still in his peak or is he past his prime?

I'm sure there will be some people that will go with the "if he wins he's in his prime and if he loses he's not" theory, but I've always wondered...can't someone lose and still be in their prime?

that is the exact reason why i made the thread... i mean pbf is expected to win but if somehow jmm beats him, excuses would discredit the winComment

Yes, and they can win and not be in their prime as well. People still considered B-Hopkins in his prime when he faced Taylor just because he was on a long winning streak, but I disagreed. Go back before Tito and you will see a better fighter physically or even with Tito. It's just Mentally and Technically Hopkins still stayed strong and won, but that doesn’t' mean he was at his absolute peak.
It all depends on how you rate it.
If you put it in a point system, say, 1-100, with 100 being absolute peak and maybe 90-100 being in their prime, that might work. Each -1 from 100 would be a slight slide.
How broad do you want to go on the definition?
Floyd: we would have to start by askin: was the version of Floyd that fought Oscar and Hatton a Prime Version of himself? Was this the same fighter that rose up the ranks and can be compared to his younger, lighter self both Mentally and Physically. Compare Floyd's career throughout.
Then, we would have to factor in the layoff and that means we have to wait and see. We just don't know.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 05-11-2009, 12:58 AM.Comment
