Dude, he beat the piss out of him. Straight up.

If that fight would've been a 15 rounder, he would've stopped Kelly.

He buckled his ass several times, including with the lead hook in round 2 or 3, again with combinations in round 7, in the 10th with the right hand, and in the 11th and 12th, again, with fluid combos.

He may not have knocked him out cold, but if that fight went much longer than it did, the referee couldn't be blamed for stopping it.

Thats right. Pavlik's counterpunching has always been rather poor but in that fight it was beyond bad. A lot of it was Hop but something wasnt right. We'll see if he can do better against a fighter that is elusive and fast like Mora.

Pavlik was always overrated and has a very limited skill set. Any fighter with good movement or defense could UD him. He does have great power and a good chin though.

          Totally different scenario though.

Roy was a young, in his prime, hot talent whom everybody knew was going to be something special.

Not a 44 year old, past prime, former Middleweight who everybody thought was finished.

          He didn't just beat Kelly.

He beat him up. He was landing 3 shots to every 1 that Pavlik landed.

And the 3 he landed, would be crips, clean, effective blows. And Kely's punch would land on Hopkins' gloves.

The point is though he wasn't ruined by the fight. If we're talking about one guy getting outboxed by the other, thats exactly what Roy did to Bernard when they fought, and Bernard went on to have a stellar career. Pavlik win or lose in the future will continue to move on and I believe he'll still have a really good career. Too many people flip the script off 1 loss. Pav's only 26 years old.

Only time will tell, but the way he refused to give Hopkins any credit for the victory ("he isn't crafty"), and blamed the loss on everything from - bronchitis, to brusitis, to an inflamed muscle sack in his elbow - leads me to believe that Hopkins ruined him, mentally.

To be honest, Hopkins has done that to a lot of guys.
i agree its def mental. But if he did have Bronchitis...thats no joke. When i had that i didnt want to get out of bed much less engage in an athletic competition.

I don't think Pavlik's damaged goods. He's smart enough to know that losing to an ATG at a foreign weight after suffering an injury in preparation which severely hampered his training isn't the end of the world.

no reason to think so at this point. he is a young fighter who got schooled by a legendary veteran, and outside of his current weight class. pavlik has natural talent that's not going away and i think the hopkins fight could just as easily help him in the long run.
