McEwan Decisive In Decision Win Over Vera

By Jake Donovan - The jury is still out on whether or not Craig McEwan will prove to be the next great middleweight in a generation loaded with talent in and around the division.

For now, the skills he possesses are more than enough to survive the prospect level, as evidenced by his latest win, a decisive decision win over Brian Vera in their outdoor main event at the Sundance Square in Fort Worth, Texas. [details]

I agree, he was outworked. Broner seems like a less skilled Berto.

"However, it was Vera who landed the far more telling blows, particularly his overhand right."

I really thought McEwan threw the more telling blows, and a bunch of them..

"With the fight well in the bank, McEwan played keep away in the final two rounds. Bouncing on his toes, he presented a difficult target for Vera to pin down, slowing down the action but still making a major impression on the judges in the process."

What's Jake smoking nowadays? McEwan stayed in the pocket all throughout the fight and traded with Vera till the end, just like what Teddy Atlas and Freddie Roach said. Vera was running on fumes, he was ripe for the picking but McEwan doesn't have the KO power, plus Vera was one tough customer. He got staggered a few times but he's got a more than average whiskers.

I thought Quintero deserve the W against Broner too...

The jury is still out on whether or not Craig McEwan will prove the next great middleweight??? Nobody would insult any jury by asking them such a bonebrained question.

I meant for the first round (I'm pretty sure that's the graph in which I mentioned it). Agreed that McEwan landed the more telling blows throughout the rest of the fight, but Vera landed quite a few bombs in the opening round.

"With the fight well in the bank, McEwan played keep away in the final two rounds. Bouncing on his toes, he presented a difficult target for Vera to pin down, slowing down the action but still making a major impression on the judges in the process."

I wouldn't call what he did in the final two rounds, trading. He bounced around, made Vera miss and countered him. It was hella smart boxing, especially considering he was (or looked) exhausted. I didn't mean to make it sound like he did laps around the ring or anything.

And I agree with everyone who had Quintero winning the opener. One of the two fighters impressed me in that fight, and it certainly wasn't Broner. I thought it was hysterical that Teddy repeatedly referenced his extensive amateur career (300 or so fights), because amateur really described Broner's performance.
