That's besides the point though, so if im following you you're saying Floyd's justified in fighting marquez since he beat pac twice & is #2 lb 4 lb. So Shane Mosley is the #1 WW at a top 5 lb 4 lb. Why not fight Mosley then? There was a poll in Grand Rapids, floyd's own hometown and twice as many people wanted the Shane fight over the JMM fight. Floyd again doesn't give fans what they want to see, same old swan song.
If JMM wasn't a tune up he'd fight a legit contender. Not a #2 lb 4 lb lightweight. It's a joke is what it is.Comment

i think at this point his unbeatable aura has been taken away, training for months or not, everyone declines around this time. floyd would truely prove how great he is by fighting into his decline. BennY Leonard already mentioned this, floyd badmouthed legends for losing beyond their prime and now that at this point, hes beyond his, we will see if he is truely as great as he thinks he is.
His biggest fights while he was looked as the #1 fighter were against both Hatton and Oscar. If he loses now, his stock drops hard without a doubt.Comment

I guess we'll find out this year, but if that is the case..then his "reign at the top was short like leprechauns" (c) Biggie

he'll lose his entire marketing tool. His entire persona is based around the 0 and what it means to be undefeated.
Many casual fans aren't entertained by him, even as a proclaimed best fighter, more will lose interest when he fails to keep it.Comment

at this point, after what, 18 or 19 title fights, i honestly dont think he has anything to prove, but what he does NEED to do is enhance his legacy, it hink he himself knows that, or he wouldnt be back. even if he takes on top fighters and loses, its alot better than if he stayed retired.Comment

It's how Roach put it that makes it a ***** move:
It looks like it's going to be a dog fight for Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he wants to yank the Pound for Pound best title from the vicious jaws of Manny Pacquiao. After a thrilling 2nd round knock out of Ricky Hatton on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Pacquiao is expected to be back in the ring by November or December, claims his trainer.
Freddie Roach who trains Pacquiao and predicted his fighter would take Hatton out within 3 rounds, believes Floyd Mayweather Jr is chicken of Pacquiao. Roach feels that way because Mayweather Jr. signed to fight Juan Manuel Marquez, when he could have waited one day and then worked something in regards to a fight with Pacquiao.
Quoted by the media after Saturday's fight, Roach in regards to Mayweather opting to fight Marquez, stated: "You know, Mayweather Jr, he could have fought Manny Pacquiao. He just had to wait one day. I think he's scared of Pacquiao." Roach went on to add that because Mayweather Jr. chose Marquez, he and Pacquiao don't plan on waiting around. "He chose Marquez. We're not going to wait around. I like to keep Manny busy. A busy fighter is a good fighter," said Roach. Perhaps the last sentence was a stab at Mayweather Jr? Mayweather Jr. has been close to two years out of the ring. He made his return official yesterday, only a couple of hours before Pacquiao vs. Hatton.

You see, he calls Floyd "scared" yet it is only bs talk because Floyd already signed to fight JMM because he needed a fight in July. Pac won't fight until later so he isn't implying Floyd should have waited longer; rust longer.
What Freddie is actually "scared" about, as well as Bob Arum who mentioned it, is Floyd beating JMM; the same fighter that some people think beat Pac not only once, but twice despite not getting the decision.
Floyd is fighting JMM to get under Pacman's Team's skin since they went after the last two opponents Floyd beat; Oscar and Hatton.
If Freddie had it his way, he would take Floyd in his first comeback fight back and have him sit out a while longer...that is, if he truly wants Pac to face him.
He did say Pac wanted to face Floyd so Pac is off the hook (unless Pac continues to go along with his team and doesn't want Floyd after all).
You see, Pac plans on fighting at the end of the year, and so does Floyd so to say they aren't waiting around for him is bs. Floyd will be there after JMM come July (if he beats JMM). That's plenty of time to make the fight and train for a fight at the end of the year.
Note: no matter how much training you do, how much sparring you do, I've always heard from boxers and trainers the overall opinion is it isn't the same as actually being under the lights, in front of a crowd, and actually fighting someone that wants to rip your head off.Comment
