If Clottey beats Cotto he has a strong claim as the top WW IMO. Not much would separate him and SSM.

NEW QUESTION: Does Clottey has the skills to outbox Cotto for a win by decision???

I know his defense is solid, but I had not watch Clottey long enough to have a good assessment on the issue.

For the record; this was my last public TOP 10 WWs. Paul Williams also is a TOP 5 WW, cause he can still make the weight and fight in a competitive fashion. PBF was out of the equation until recent days, but obviously also is a TOP 5 WW. Anyway, this thread is about Clottey...

I believe Clottey is a TOP 5 WW. If he beats Cotto and Mosley, he should be crown the top WW. Unless PBF decides to fight a real WW contender. So before his fight with Cotto, let us make clear on where you rank Clottey as a WW, and how it affects the resume of those who beat Clottey. Specially, when there are so many "out-of-the-closet-gay-groopie-mafias" been created lately. Where do you stand on this issue as a boxing fan or as a "group"?
I think Clottey is a very good boxer, one of the top 5 ww in the world at the moment. His fight against Cotto will really answer the question because Cotto is really the standard at the weight, sure questions will always be there about the Margarito fight, but you have to recognise that,if you put that aside,he has been excellent.

Paul Williams has been superb, but I have serious doubts that he will come back down as he has proven he can carry extra weight with ease and the longer he leaves it,the harder it will be.

To be No.1 he has got to beat the very best in the division, but to make those fights will be a nightmare and I cant see it happening, which is a shame because as a neutral there are some fantastic fights there. The other thing is Floyds comeback. Will he want to stick around and clean up? I very much doubt it,I think he is back for 2-3 huge money fights and then out,and the first 2 of those fights wont be against welters anyway.

Some good boxing fans, friends of mine, see Cotto hitting gloves all night and not doing any damage. They say Cotto getting walked down and getting incredibly tired. If that is the case, if Clottey's counter punching improves round by round, he may take Cotto by decision.

Cotto's stamina is suspect. Agaisnt SSM it seems he was going to run out of gas. I hope Cotto comes ready to fight 15 rounds. If not, he is screwed. In the other hand, Cotto is a boxer/puncher. IMO, he outboxes Clottey and reverts the pressure. Cotto can cut down the ring and move around the ring better than Clottey.

Clottey is very good, but he is overrated. The fact that idiots thinks he can KO Cotto is byond me. The guy doesnt have Power, his last real stoppage was like in 2005.

The guys is tough and strong, Decent hand speed, but Poor Work rate, and even worst stamina.

So no, he wont beat Cotto!!!!!!!!!!!

Clottey winning by KO will surprise me. He will need to go to The California Boxing State Boxing and rob the "plaster' used by Margarito. LMAO!!! Clottey lacks power; but fighting agaisnt a "smaller opponent" should make Joshua more comfortable to increase his work rate. This is a close leveled match-up. It's a tough fight to predict. I got cotto, but would not be surprise if Clottey comes "more hungry" and pulls a win out his performance.

Dude, I respect your posts. Clottey has a good chance, don't say he can't; it's not fair for Clottey. I got Cotto winning too, but I spread love to other good fighters. It's a close call.

I find Clottey to be underrated on here. He's certainly a top 5 WW kind of guy. I think Cotto is going to have his hands full here.....as would any other WW out there.
