Kevin Johnson now fighting Devin Vargas

Due to injury, Monte Barrett backed out of his fight with Kevin Johnson on ESPN Friday Night Fights May 15.

His replacement will be Devin Vargas (17-0, age 27). Good to see they got a decent opponent instead of a tomato can on short notice.

Someone's "0" has got too go!

Vargas represented the US at the 2004 Olympics. He had previously won bronze at heavyweight in the Pan American Games.

    Here's his pro record:

Rather ashame Barret and Johnson isn't happening, but this isn't far behind it. Very interesting fight, Devin Vargas is a very good repalcement and should provide Johnsion with a serious test.

Vargas was a brillant amature winning the National Golden Gloves and Competed at the 2004 Olympics. And in his pro career has never tasted defeat in 17 fights.

It a shame he hasn't had a full camp, but I still expect this to be a very interesting one......

And like I said if Johnson is as good as he says he is should win this one. But should expect a tough fight

Hopefully this is good, there was really slim to none chance of John Ruiz or Fres Oquendo stepping in here.

Ruiz has no REAL intention of fighting another contender before he gets his next undeserved mandatory shot at the WBA title, regardless of what he's said.

I think he does. He think these guys are untested and he'll get big money facing one of them on HBO or Showtime before his title shot which may not even come this year.

Thanks for the info bro. This is goin to be a good fight, competitive and finally Johnson get's to fight someone decent. I say Johnson by MD, not a lot of knockout power between these guy's.

That's nuts that an Olympian is giving his 0 away taking this fight on such short notice.

Good for Johnson willing to take a good fighter when another good fighter backs out.

Vargas must be confident he can win.

I'm just happy it's not another bum facing Johnson - his poor opposition has been a waste of his talent.

I like this fight...possibly better than the Barrett fight. Plus, the Barrett fight will be there for the winner. Let's go Team USA '04! Big weekend for the team with both Vargas and Ward taking on their biggest test of their careers.
