Leonard is regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time. I recognize the talent and definately think he makes top 25-50 but I think he is a little overrated because he was a celebrity. Until Benitez he fought all underclassed opponents that he could have knocked out in the early round if he didn't do so much showboating. He waited to take on Hearns and then got lucky at the end. He lost to Duran the first time and won the second time because anyone that doesn't stand right in front of Duran he didn't want to fight. Lost the second bout with hearns even though he got a bs draw. And waited to fight Hagler when Hagler had 66 fights and was talking about retirement. He was also embarrasing with his fights with Norris and Camacho which he should never have been in. I think most of his wins were against fighters who were not at the top level and he could have beat them earlier but would rather showboat instead.
Do you think Sugar Ray Leonard was overrated?

I gotta admit I think Ray is somewhat overrated. I'll admit that I'm not a massive fan of his but I think he is one of those fighters where you can look at the names on his resume and without fully considering the context in which those fights took place you can overrate him a little.
Still a tremendous fighter no doubt, just a little overrated for mine. -

I don't see how Leonard is overrated. Who else can go 15 hard rounds with Duran. Then win a rematch. He knocked out Tommy Hearns with one eye in a fight he was losing. And he beat Marvin Hagler after a layoff.
Include wins over Benitez. Titles in different weightclasses...how is he overrated?Comment

No, only because he came off of a I think a 4 year break to beat who most consider the best Middleweight of all time.
He also holds wins over a guy regarded the ebst Lightweight ever, and one of the best 147-154 pound fighters ever. So I mean you cant argue his resume. His reign was just so short in his prime. Then he handpicked opponents when he came back.Comment

I'm not convinced of every "ATG's" of the past. So far there's been threads of Ali and SRL being overrated which is crazy to me that those threads don't get flamed. Anyways, SRL to me is a proven ATG and if he's not an all time great then Mayweather, Hopkins, Pacquiao, Calzaghe, Jones, Holyfield, Tyson, Toney, Etc., are nobodies.Comment
