Merchant does the same to hopkins, he doesnt like fighters with certain styles. If floyd was Knocking people out all the time, hed have very little to say at all. in many ways, its almost a universal talking point to rip on floyd at this point.

Yeah, not just Mayweather, B-Hop has to deal with his crap also. I'm sure if Guzman became a big name, he'd do the same

Mayweather was offered the Margarito fight right after Judah, but still wasn't sure if Oscar was going to fight him in september. Oscar declined for then and Margarito was already fighting Clottey by then. Mayweather looked at Mosley, who declined, and then at Spinks, but due to bad backlash chose Margarito instead.

If Mayweather had beat Margarito and shut him out, people would have said he should have fought Baldomir instead. Choosing Baldomir was the right move.

Mayweather would've been criticized either way, but most people were critical of him fighting Baldomir because they felt Margarito was the better fighter back then.

Larry said it a lot, hence the Larry hate escalated with that fight. Baldomir and the after fight spat they had.
Baldomir got it all with the victory over Judah.
I remember seeing Baldomir fighting on the undercard of Adamek-Briggs Brewster-Golota at United Center and he was buried way deep in a 10 card fight.
Believe me no one rated Baldomir as highly as Margarito back then.
As it turned out Margarito said **** it and fought Clottey.

I think the Merchant hate kicked in first when he fought Bruseles in a gimme fight.
That was the fight they were talking about the nfl playoffs. Floyd was in the ring and Floyd is fighting while listening to Lamps Merchant and while he is fighting floyd shouts out "I got the Falcons" highlighting the fact that he's fighting a guy who shouldn't even be in there with him.

It was a funny moment, but I think Bruseles-Floyd kicked off Larry's hate for good.


Floyd's finanancial decisions were impeccable. I wouldn't deny him that.
He got the same money fighting Baldy as he would have Margarito and added to that he wanted to stick it to Arum and he did.

But no one thought Baldy was the best back then despite being "lineal"

During the Soto-Benoit fight. Merchant absolutely hammered Floyd Jr. about cherry picking his opponents. It's clear he hates Floyd Jr. Merchant is the man! Only he will go on aire and lay it all out as he and the rest of the boxing world sees it. Floyd ain't got nothing legacy wise in future, unless he can do something to change boxing historians minds. Merchant is a throwback!
