Completely blowing out opponent after opponent on his way to collecting belts in multiple divisions.
Early on, Pacquiao got by due to his outstanding physical attributes, mainly power and speed. Later on, when his raw style was ironed out by Freddie Roach, he became a more versatile fighter that could match wits with the likes of Marquez and Barrera.

Mayweather isn't the athlete Pacquiao is, his biggest deficiency coming in the power department. Pacquiao was beating a lot of guys because they couldn't take his punches, Mayweather has beaten guys with his amazing skill and speed.

Which is why i kept tellin the thread starter that without Floy'd amateur pedigree or the genetic privelege of being a 2nd generation fighter that had been training since age 5.....Floyd would be half as skilled or intelligent as he is known today....and doesnt have pure athleticsm to carry him 3-4 weightclasses up without taking some bad losses....let alone 12.

That's the whole point....is that you cant have it both ways. If Floyd turns pro at 16 then he wouldnt be anywhere near as good as he is today. His forte is skills and intelligence. Both of which are LEARNED. Not god given talents. If he never learned the skills...or spent enough time internalizing them to become muscle memory in a safe environment that doesnt affect your record....what makes you think he would end up becoming 12 weight champ??

As a safety first fighter without the ethnic following Pacquiao, Hatton and Barrera commands, a few early losses would have been the end of his career. He would have found himself fighting for purses well less than what would have been able to sustain him financially and he would have fallen out of the sport before winning a title.

I don't think it was genetic as much as it was he was always in the ring since he was a kid learning. Very few children of notable boxers accomplish anything of note, outside of Cory Spinks of course.

It's really hard to say if Mayweather would have been able to be successful at 16 years old with the style he fights with, his body would have been one of a young man against an adult, who knows how he would have reacted to all the leaning and the physical strength of fully grown adults.

Very true. He was inclined to be slightly bolder early in his career as far as safety goes though. Hey may have generated a slight buzz and perhaps be a local fan favorite....but as you mentioned....a few losses would have been the end of his career before even getting a single title shot.

If Mayweather would have turned pro at 16,

he'd be the first Ricardo Williams.
