Why will Hatton NOT revert back to his old self.

Why would he even consider boxing with Pacquiao and "working behind the jab". He's got a shorter reach, he's slower and has much less experience going toe to toe in a boxing match.

He will revert back to his old self, probably even in the first round.

the part that freddy roach doesn't understand is that it's Hatton reverting back to his 'old self' that will be the end of Pacquiao. If Hatton fights as his 'new self' Manny will own him, if Hatton fights like the Tszyu Hatton then he will use his size to dominate and destroy Pacman so Roach is going to get his own wish to come true without realizing what that really means.

Because the JAB is MONEY. Jab, straight-right, left-hook. You need something to set up the other punches. You can't just go diving in there because he will get smacked around by Pac.

"Shorter Reach": it's about timing (as well as some speed). Hatton actually mentioned Tyson with this.

Once he gets inside, then he can revert to "Old Ricky," although I like the Pre-Tszyu Ricky when inside because he is actually punching. He can do a little of everything.

ok well you are contradicting yourself because the title of the thread says
Why will Hatton NOT revert back to his old self.

I think Hatton will be the same fighter. If he becomes too confused and if he is getting owned due to his so called new style, what other options does he have but to revert to captian MAULER. I think the old Ricky Hatton has a better chance of winning. We all saw what happend to Hagler when he changed his style from South paw to orthodox against Ray Leonard.

He'll probably have to grapple if he can to slow the action down and of course to try to wear down Pac. But he just can't go in there diving in with the intention of clinching up with Pac. The grapple has to be behind something...Jab, combo, grapple.
