Its because up until his last few fights he was ****y as hell and paraded himself like the big man, also his character outside of boxing is fairly unsavoury... going round with his mates acting ****y, driving a big blacked-out hollywood style jeep, breaking speed limits and putting people in hospital... (the opposite of Ricky Hatton) also combine all this with the fact that he is with Frank Warren (who many UK fans hate) and you have a very unpopular person indeed.
However I, like many other UK fight fans, still like he guy and I know the media can count for a lot over here, he is young and overly judged, and the fact is he IS a great talent and in my opinion he isn't too ****y.
Generally speaking, after Audley Harrison's failure (and all the deluded/****y statements) The Olympic stars get a lot of resentment among the real boxing fans. They turn pro and become a big draw without doing anything, so as soon as they become ****y before doing something substantial in the ring they are booed!
In the UK we don't hype our stars...Comment

*Waits for the british are racist*
I'm not a huge fan of Khan, and not because he's ****** or wears a different flag, mainly because how ****y he was a few fights a go on how he could beat certain top level fighters but then again alot of fighters do this, I also don't like how much hype he gets when theres other fighters out there that have done more and are winning euro and british titles and defending them such as kell brook, murray. I wish him the best of luck though with his career and hope he does well.Comment

Won the silver medal in Athens Olympics in 04.
Five years later he's STILL fighting little known/featherfisted(first guy with an actual punch knocked him out in less than the time it takes me to do a quick piss)/over the hill guys. After Kotelnik, it will be his sixth year of boxing without a big name apart from Barerra, but lets not even go there with that one.
Yet he still thinks he's the real deal etc etc blah blah, basically riding the hype train for all it's worth, with no real evidence of him being the real deal when it comes to his fights. Please dont mention the Barerra fight.
Going across the waters and abandoning his country to help train one of the British Boxing fans biggest foes to date to beat their man.
Probably a little bit of racism too. Don't want to say it, but people are just ****s like that.
Either way, with all of this put together, it's not hard to see why he'd be boo'd.Last edited by GrizzleBoy; 05-02-2009, 02:12 AM.Comment

Yet, you show up in mass to support Amir Khan....... So, you don't hype your fighters, you just buy into it?Its because up until his last few fights he was ****y as hell and paraded himself like the big man, also his character outside of boxing is fairly unsavoury... going round with his mates acting ****y, driving a big blacked-out hollywood style jeep, breaking speed limits and putting people in hospital... ARE YOU ON CRACK LOL!
Tim Henman? Young tennis prospect hyped till his ****ing brain exploded. Even though he never actually won a major competition lol.
The Track and Field guys? There was a point where the track guys were constantly hyped in Olympic and other events, but they hardly did anything most of the time.
Khan? Won SILVER medal in Olympics.
Everyone went ****ing crazy about that and his hype literally hasn't stopped since then.
David Beckham, Wayne Rooney etc etc.
To say that the UK doesn't ram the media up the asses of its young prospective talent is just a silly thing to say really.Comment
