I sense alot of people on here only started watching boxing in the last year or so, Seriously this isnt the biggest fight ever not even in the last 10 years or so.

It also depends on where you're from/resides, Coming from over here Mayweather/Hatton was twice as big as Pacman/Hatton.

im in Phils so i guess this fight is the biggest fight next only to morales-pac 2, just my opinion,,

all of the filipinos, brits, loads of americans and its even popular in aus!

You think more people will watch then let's say Tyson-Holyfield (which I watched in Japan) or DLH-Trinidad (which I watched in the middle east)

Let's put it this way. @ the weigh-in, you got the feeling that 2 icons/giants/larger than life men were about to collide today. I've never seen or had that feeling about a fight before. It's huge.

LOUIS VS. SCHMELING and it was arguably the most important boxing match in history. Hell, I've heard stories that people in concentration camps were doing all sorts of things to hear anything about the results of the fight.
All that in an age where everybody didn't have access to a TV or Computers and the Giant Media circus it is today.

Then you had others: Dempsey was huge especially given the no TV, Computers, Media hype, etc.
Ali was huge World-Wide and he had good dancing partners like Liston, Frazier and Foreman to help him.
TYSON in his hayday was bigger than every major sports star in the World, including Michael Jordan. Of course, he blew it and he could have been even bigger.




But Pac vs. Hatton is good for boxing.

Yeah, I agree with this post. The live gates were nuts too. You would have fights with over 100k people.
But you know the diversity of choices people have today in sports, and ways to listen to and watch fights, kind of dilutes the overall effect.

And back then, news and hype for a fight would be on page 1 of the newspaper. Today you're lucky it's even on page 1 of the sport section in domestic and international papers.

True, but if you promote it right, it's quite easy actually to draw a big crowd. Look at Britney Spears.
